A Utah mother is behind bars for allegedly attempting to sell her 13-year-old daughter's virginity for $10,000.

Felicia Rea McClure has been charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse and exploitation of a minor for planning the money-raising scheme, according to investigators in Salt Lake City.

The suspect's boyfriend reportedly tipped off authorities after he found a text message on McClure's phone from a man interested in buying the teen's virginity.

I can't imagine any situation that a mother could do this to her child. If she wanted to sell someone sell herself! By the looks she would'nt have to many takers. There is no excuse! not even the financial downturn (is a lame excuse), to do something like this. I think whatever she gets she deserves and then some. I would beg before I would do this to my child as a mother it is my job to protect her. As far as her being 13 and agreeing with it, she is a child she has no choices, but of course it makes you wonder how she is being raised up, by a mother with no morals. Thank GOD her mothers boyfriend had enough respect to contact the police instead of just going along with it, because she wasn't his child. For the man who was going to buy her, he needs to be behind bars to. It takes a sick mind to even think about doing this to a child. God help them all.

It's certainly a crime for the mother to try to sell her daughters virginity, that's trafficking, but I don't see a problem (other than a moral one) if the daughter herself went about looking for a buyer, if she really needs the money, it's her virginity, she can do what she wants with it.

She's 13.

In most states, that's below the age of consent.

that's why there are laws -- for pervs thinking it is OK to buy a teen virgin.

The girl's got to eat, what other source of income do you think she has during this financial downturn? a doctorate and a father with a house on the beach?

As reprehensible as this woman's offense may be, she does not deserve life in prison for it. Three-to-five years sounds about right to me. Also, why doesn't she have a lawyer? Even if she is slam-dunk guilty, she is still entitled to a lawyer to ensure that she is accorded her due process rights.

This doesn't surprise me. The media, drugs and alcohol has turned a large segment of the US population into wanton animals in search of a buck. Expect the worse.

You are so right. There are the bankers, the Wall Street traders, corporate executives, hedge fund managers, investment counselors, insurance company barons -- from such a pack of blood thirsty carnivores we should expect the worst.

I wonder if the daughter is wishing the mother would sell her own virginity right about now.

Give it a sec to sink in...

This woman is sick....but what about the man who was actually going to buy....

You're right -- where's the rest of this story?

The boyfriend should get some kind of award for turning this woman in.
