'Good Will Hunting' House In Eagle Rock

Via Curbed LA: Calling all cinephiles! A piece of LA film history has hit the real estate market -- and it comes with a price chop. This is the house where Ben Affleck (an Occidental College alum) and Matt Damon lived while writing the script for their Academy Award winning film, "Good Will Hunting." Originally, the farmland was purchased by Eagle Rock pioneer, Albert Brasch who commissioned architect Jean L. Egasse to design the "chalet" like property.

In 1923, shortly after the home was built, California Southland stated, "To design a house for a hillside as one would plan an ornament for a crown or sword hilt: to make the hill a picture or a tapestry of houses and gardens—this is the craft of J.L. Egasse who seems able to grasp the ensemble of a hillside and to build his house and garden as a part of the landscape." The four bedroom, two bathroom property features fireplaces, crown molding, stone floors, a detached garage, and treetop views. The Hansel and Gretel-style house was also anthologized by the "Los Angeles: An Architectural Guide."

Redo the kitchen and you've got a masterpiece.

It's got great bones, just needs to be fixed up a little. The only thing that really bothered me about it was the kitchen, it didn't seem to "fit" with the structure of the rest the house, it almost looked like an add-on. And it has some land which is always a plus in my book.

Lose the yellow paint job on the walls. A new paint job, better kitchen lighting (hate that fan!) some elbow grease and some good furniture polish... oh, it's a fixer-upper for sure but it's got wonderful bone structure. It could be stunning with the right treatment. I'd buy it if I could afford it.

The outside is fine. Gut it and start over.

I thought Affleck and Damon were still eating grill cheese sandwiches and ramen when they wrote Good Will Hunting. They were already living in a mini-mansion!

Yeah, how did they afford such a place? They weren't famous yet.

It's like they made it ugly on purpose.

I'm pretty sure this house is in Middle Earth 'cause it reeks of Hobbits.

That's how to make it Hollywood--connections.

Wow, I always thought they lived in some small, cramped 2 bedroom while starving artistically to write that script (cliche, I know).

I never knew that they were so well off in college already.

i don't think they were they were well off growing up.

the story that they are overnight successes is a myth. they had already been acting for a while before goodwill hunting came out. both of them had already had several sizable roles in films long before goodwill hunting. in fact both had already been leads. chasing amy for affleck and rainmaker for damon.

So what do you need? Besides a miracle.

Wow! Under $1 million. That's a first, HuffPost. Maybe, some day, you can list houses that average people can afford....
