That is not going to happen. Israel is an outlaw on the world stage.

He would probably have a better shot of becoming head of the world bank, the usual process is that an american gets that job, and israel and the usa are very tight (at the moment).

I think Ken Lay has a better shot. At least he does not come from a country that a lot of countries pretend does not exist or want to eliminate. And, yes, I know he is dead.

Germany and France would never let a non-European get the seat, it's a shame there are many non-European candidates that would be ideal for the role, it would have been a nice change to have a different perspective.

Having seen Greenspan, Rubin, Summers et all involved in the economy I would have to say no to another Jewish candidate. Sorry, but those before you have not painted an appealing canvas.

The fact that they're Jewish has nothing to do with it. The question you should be asking is what kind of a philosophy does he have in terms of how money is made and what is his thinking behind solutions to monetary crisis. His ethnic background has nothing to do with it.

I must again disagree. There is too much at stake. History as well as current ethnic climate is not in his favor.

BTW, that is not a post I make without considerable thought. I have become very leary and skeptical based on the banking and other factors. And this is not something I type with great pride, but things are changing and not for the best.

Outside shot? Sort of like Fiji is just outside Jerusalem.

Let the job go to whomever is most qualified.

It's not about qualifications, it's about nationality unfortunately.

Speaking as a member of the Jewish Diaspora:

There's never been a better time in our history than now to be a Jew. I think it would be excellent if this respected man replaced Strauss-Kahn...also Jewish..then maybe it will dawn on the world...that we Jews are not remotely the eternal victims that AIPAC, UJA, ADL and others claim we are.

Name me another time in Western history when we have had it so good?
I mean also that it is Fischer's nationality that is for comment, not that he is Jewish but that it has significance for my Diaspora speaks volumes.

I hope he gets the job, then we can cease all this prattle about us Jews being the eternal victim.

I agree. Unfortunately it is some Jews interest to play the victim card (we all know who). There was a rabbi in San Francisco who wanted to create a Jewish Cultural Museum; he got in trouble because he wanted to emphasize the positive aspect of Jewish History, not the Jews as perpetual victims. The Paris Jewish Museum got the same rap. There two way to view Jewish history; the first and most popular has Jews as the perpetual victim, the second the way I like to see it, is a history of a proud and resilient people one of the longest surviving cultures in the world that have out lasted all our previous enemies (the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Romans, the ancient Egyptian, the Inquisition, the Nazis), and will prevail against our current and future ones.

It's not about being Jewish. It's about being Israeli.
