Teen Stephen Magnet Analyzes The Physical Impossibilities In My Little Pony

Ponies

Growing up, many of our favorite cartoons transcended reality and brought us into a world that wasn't "scientifically" correct. Unfortunately, one student's physics project just had to go and ruin that magic.

If you're a My Little Pony fan, you might want to cover your ears.

GOOD reports Los Angeles student Stephen Magnet, known as beatledude64 on youtube, was given an assignment to find three scenes from any movie or television show and use physics to determine if something was or wasn't possible. Magnet choose "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic," and dissected everything from the Sonic Rainboom's acceleration properties, to the true mass of a Pony and a butterfly (which is 500 milligrams, by the way.)

WATCH:

Magnet received a perfect score on the project, although he admits the physics might not be as unerring:

The physics in this might not be 100 percent correct, but this was more for fun than actual science/calculations. Also we had to give it a rating for how physically correct it was, I only used XP and RP which basically meant physics outside this universe.

Hilarious, but sister might be a bit disappointed. Though, she IS 16 years old, she might want to watch some more grown up shows...

there is a theory that says if stephen magnet's name were butch trucker he wouldn't be into physics.

Wait a minute. We're breaking down a show about talking, flying ponies? Seriously though, I love to see science being made fun. Please continue this sort of stuff showing kids how enjoyable science can be.

Not ever teacher assigns these kinds of wide open projects, primarily because they are VERY difficult for the students to complete; nevertheless, many teachers do try to give students opportunities to really shine. Sadly, few students actually take those opportunities.

If your physics class was boring, then it is likely that your fellow classmates were boring (likewise for their fellow classmates... which unfortunately includes you).

I often tried the same activities in multiple classes. In some classes, the kids would take that activity and run (and have a great time in the process). In other classes doing the exact same activity I would get "This is boring, teacher! Do we have to do this?"

Here's the problem: If you take 22 kids, explain the rules of a game to them, give them a ball and let them go, some groups of kids will just sit down, glare at the ball and complain that it is boring. Other groups of kids will go and play soccer and have fun.

You get out of these things what you put into them.

When the teacher is so timid that he lectures to the blackboard that his face is 2 inches away from--never turning around to face the class once--and blocking the notes he is scribbling in tiny letters on the blackboard, while mumbling quietly (almost to himself), its hard to know what's going on let alone get excited about it.

As soon as the bell rang he would scurry from the classroom with his head down before anyone could ask a question. He always came shuffling in to class at the last moment as well. If you were to catch up to him and corner him with a question it was almost impossible to understand the answer through his stammering.

He had a brilliant mind--too bad he couldn't share it with anyone.

BTW, my parents were college professors and I grew up and lived for many years as an adult in a university town. I have known lots of professors and teachers--both in the classroom and my personal life.

And my assessment of you as a teacher isn't very good. You are the teacher, you are supposed to TEACH people. Explaining something ONCE and then turning the class loose is not teaching!

If explaining something one time was enough, every first grader would be reading by the second day, and everyone would graduate from high school by age 10.

You put in a half-hearted effort and then you blame the students! Teachers teach--you're not a teacher.

You took Prob and Stats? You understand the Bell Curve? So you know it isn't possible for the vast majority of students to trail woefully behind the curve, right? Right?

You get an F for effort and an A for arrogance.
