Chicago's Best Beer Gardens: Logan Square Edition

Chicago’s Best Beer Gardens: Logan Square Edition

Logan Square has changed a lot in recent years. It seems that a new bar or restaurant pops up weekly, and the swelling young population in the area is not complaining. Now that it (finally) seems to be warming up, try an ice cold beverage in a Logan Square beer garden. We rounded up some of our favorite places.

The Whistler: This cozy little bar/music venue seems twice its size when the back patio opens in the summer. A scattering of metal chairs and tables provide a great location for sipping on one of The Whistler’s amazing cocktails or cheap cans of PBR. The only downside is missing out on the live bands or DJs performing inside.2421 N. Milwaukee Ave.; 773-227-3530Small Bar: This bar’s enclosed beer garden has leafy trees, hop vines and a surrounding fence that make it feel a little like an escape from city life. Tiny lanterns keep the mood pleasant and warm, with lively groups often staying until close. Don’t miss Small Bar’s great selection of craft brews while you’re there.2956 N. Albany Ave.; 773-509-9888Longman and Eagle: With waits often an hour or two long on a typical night, the outdoor seating at Longman and Eagle may help you get a table a little faster. This sidewalk patio area runs along a tree-lined side street, which also makes it a great choice if you prefer a quieter meal. This restaurant boasts whiskey and bourbon flights in addition to their upscale pub fare.2657 N. Kedzie Ave.; 773-276-7110Weegee’s Lounge: This neighborhood joint has an old-timey feel that serves as a warm and friendly alternative to the competitive hipster hangouts popping up all over the ‘hood. The outdoor patio is just as unassuming as the laid-back interior with sparse décor and simple chairs and tables. At Weegee’s, expect old-school cocktails, friendly service and a chill atmosphere.3659 W. Armitage Ave.; 773-384-0707Dunlay’s on the Square: Once the warm weather sets in, expect to see the large front windows at Dunlay’s opened up onto their airy, sun-drenched sidewalk patio with a lovely view of the neighborhood’s namesake square. The outdoor setting is particularly pleasant for weekend brunch, and the tangy bloody marys are a dream. Additionally, Dunlay’s has a great wine selection and a budget-friendly menu.3137 W. Logan Blvd.; 773-227-2400
