I think Faux News should be more concerned about the fact that the main character Bella Swan makes decisions according to her sparkley boyfriend Edward. Instead of going to college as a human, she chose to marry her boyfriend at a very young age and be a housewife to him for all of eternity. She is not someone girls should be looking up to. She also makes-out with her best werewolf friend Jacob while she was still with Edward. The series condones many things but I don't think domestic violenc is one of those things.

In May of 2010 AOL's Top Ten Most Challenged Book List came out with ANGEL IN THE SHADOWS as the alternative to Twilight. If you want a good read check out this book by Lisa Grace. It's an e-book on Amazon for .99 cents. I have the hardcover. She's giving away an I pad too.

Plus FOX news really doesn't get thing right. Example is the "Expose" on Mass Effect FOX: This video game is terrible. Itpromoted drugs, violence and there was an alien pole dancing in a bar. What are we exposing our children too. Reality: The game is first off all not relating to any of the above. And second of all if you are a parent and buy a M 17 game for your child, than it is your fault.

I do agree with books being poorly written, I don't mind the fact that they include riske' themes. I feel that if young girls have read these books. Awesome, because at least they are reading. Oh no there is a sex scene it!

It is better to expose teens to sex in literature than making a show saying. Its ok teen, you are pregnant. Lets make you a star and than ruin your life. "cough" MTV "cough"

Personally I think the Twilight books are poorly written and the movies while full of eye candy for some are pathetic. The lead female spends all her time buried in teenaged angst thicker than I would have believed possible.

The portrayal of the behavior being criticized really does depend on how it is portrayed. Physical and mental abuse of romantic partners and family is not a good thing but is it really being glorified or not? Is the portrayal a teaching tool for parents and others?

God, I HATE it when I agree with Fox.

anyone who feels compelled to quickly dismiss this due to the fox connection should first read the love scene in breaking dawn. the heroine is left bruised and injured and the room is destroyed....the hero is upset and ashamed for having harmed her and she consoles him, reassuring him that she liked it and that the injuries were worth it. essentially she says that she was asking for it. i am not conservative by nature but the thought of pre teen girls reading this as one of their first introductions to sex did disturb me.

I agree. You don't have to be conservative to recognize when something leaves a harmful impression on people.

well, don't let your 'pre teen girl" (are pre teen boys ok though?) read Wuthering Heights either. Maybe lock her in her room.

Right now there is a sizable percentage of teenagers who believe rape is acceptable if the couple ahs been dating for longer than six months or if the guy has spent considerable money on the girl. Teens are taught that the most passionate love loses control and hits sometimes.
These are not the messages young people need to hear. Stalking is not glamorous. It is sick and scary and people get hurt.
I've always thought that the "stalkerish" behavior in popular series has been perverse. In the Sookie Stackhouse novels, the character of Bill lurks outside the heroine's house every night watching who comes and goes. That isn't romantic, it is obsessive and twisted and not normal.

I think it depends on the age group. As an adult, I recognize that it isn't romantic to be obsessive, twisted and abnormal; so I can enjoy True Blood. It is definitely not for the young and impressionable.

Don't forget that darned Wuthering Heights, which at boyfriend abuse and grave desecration.

Fiction is supposed to go to dark places and, in some cases, cater to some darker fantasies. What people like in real life and what they enjoy in fiction are not always the same thing. Also, this is just another example where parents need to at least casually peruse and research what their kids are interested in and obsessed by to see where their heads are at.

Twilight didn't make teen girls like romance and bad boys, but rather became popular because those interests are already there. Reading about caters to that interest while giving girls a chance to think about their feelings on the issue.

From the network that perpetuates more lies, hate, phobias (pick one) and intellectual abuse on its viewers...isn't it ironic?

This is actually not so easily dismissed as Faux News nonsense. They should change the headline here because it will cause far too many people to reject this thesis out of hand.

Fox or not, it's ridiculous. These books are obviously fiction/fantasy. If you have a teen that thinks they are true, you have a bigger problem than books...

That wasn't the point. The point was that some of these books create an ideal-relationship narrative that is unhealthy: dominant male/submissive female; controlling behaviors as representative of intensity of "love" or of "passion". But then again, be honest, you didn't read the article, did you?
