Hamza Al-Khatib, Syria Boy, Brutally Killed In Custody (GRAPHIC VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/31/11 07:26 PM ET Updated: 07/31/11 06:12 AM ET

A 13-year-old Syrian boy detained by government forces has been brutally killed, his wounds displayed in a shocking video. The boy, identified as Hamza al-Khateeb, was shot, burned, and had his penis cut off when his body was returned to his family.

The killing has sparked another wave of protests in Syria, al Jazeera reports. According to a Facebook page memorializing al-Khatib, the boy was arrested at a checkpoint by Syrian forces.

"We will go out from every home, from every district to express our anger" over the killing, actvists wrote on their Facebook page which carries a picture of the boy, according to the AFP. "A month had passed by with his family not knowing where he is, or if or when will he be released. He was released to his family as a dead body. Upon examining his body, the signs of torture are very clear."

A digusting disply of hatred and stupidity! 13 years old; a life robbed!

Why was a baby 13 year old boy tortured, why can't we stop it, what makes people do these things - why are so many people such barbarics, this is far more important to comment on that parking fines, neighbourhood disputes, robberies, this is downright inhumane and the powers to be should step in. I bellieve that small efforts should be replaced by a major effort to stop dictators doing this. How can their families live with this?

Horrid and compelling as this yellow journalism is do not take to tainted bait when America's "friends" are up to FAR worse things the corporate media refuses to inform you of. Wise up folks! Abjure black propaganda. See REAL journalism. See Democracy Now: Seymour Hersh on the Arab Spring, "Disaster" U.S. Wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and the Looming Crisis in Iraq Now.

When do we get to see some video of chard children killed by US bombing raids?

Good job Huff Post! A lot of people crave watching blood and gore films such as "SAW." But, when it comes to reality they can't stand it! This is what America needs as that they are sheltered by most Major Media outlets. A big dose of "Reality"! There is no taking the video out of context. You gave a warning, so those who were offended by it, should not have viewed it. So then, don't let people who live in a fantasy world discourage you in your reporting! We need to know what is really going on in the world! In fact the same type of "Blood Lust" and evil is going on in America! We need to know so that we can protect ourselves! It is ashame that America lives in a fantasy world!

Sheep who fear marching off to hunt down monsters abroad must be spoon-fed propaganda go prepare them for a fleecing by their shepherds. Wilson did it in WWI, FDR did it in WWII, Johnson did it in Vietnam (till the public wised up) and Bush did it with WMD - and still we stay stupid. Now we blast Libya with awesome warfire (“just to protect the Libyans of course! Oil has nothing to do with it) as the media primes us for more war against Pakistan and fuels yellow journalism as a propaganda device for “regime change” in Syria. The cynical sensational device of a little boy's "castration" will suffice as the perfect propaganda device. The sheep march in lockstep. What an absolutely genius of a propaganda campaign.

Democracy? Who are we kidding? Pulease! Give these people the right to vote for who they want and they will slit every American throat in sight as they nationalize the resources dictators have sold to the colonialists and imperialists who have been raping their lands. As Chomsky and others have pointed out, 80% of the Muslim peoples regard America (not Israel) as their primary threat to the entire region. It is the Arab autocrats (not the people) who supported the Libyan assault and even they almost immediately withdrew support when it immediately went too far. Do you folks ACTUALLY think the U.S. wants them to have Democracy rather than the brutal dictators (like the Saudis) who serve American corporate interests?

Absolutely true! Spot on. Yes, ask: why does the corporate media saturate us with this but not photos of the mutilated corpses of women *publically* stone to death by the Saudis -our “friends” or the horrific crimes that continued to unfold in the Congo?

As just one example, for the gullible who chomp at the bait of black propaganda, Seymour Hersh recently said that the Arab Spring is a “Disaster.” In Tunisia and Egypt we saw spontaneous people's revolts that spread throughout the Gulf region. Now, totally of unremarked upon by the press here in America, there is a counterrevolution going on

I will doubtfully convince you of this but you speak with too much certainty. On matters of state, you don't know for sure the motivations unless you were in the room. True for Noam as anyone. Logic your way through a theory if you like, but be a bit circumspect as to how right you are.

As to Libya, and that America's course was guided by Libya having oil, how does that comport with that we haven't brought similar pressure on Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, and how does it comport with a familiar theory of Noam Chomsky, since you mentioned him, that America is hated by the Arab street because we have consistently chosen oil (read that, the dictator of the moment favorably disposed to selling its oil to the U.S.) over the ordinary Arab on the street? You have to acknowledge that we moved militarily against Gadhafi, but not those other autocracies. The consistent policy would have been to stay out of it.

No one can say we chose the "winning side", which is the "street" in Libya, but the crown in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Any of us, including the administration, can only guess as to who the long-term winners will be, in each of those cases.

So how do you make the case that America's actions are consistent, that is, fundamentally favoring oil and with disregard for the Arab street?

“Doubt is the first step towards truth ... [and] incredulity is the first step towards philosophy." Diederot

After all we have seen over the decade it’s amazing how readily people accept whatever propaganda is spoon fed them for political purpose as tragedy is exploited and sensationalized.

How easy it is to fire up the rabid mob

Am so glad this was finally taken off the front page. The next step should be to take it down for good. Stop exploiting that poor boy's broken body! In the sweet nmae of all that is sacred and moral. how many of these 'sympathetic and morally outraged' posters would ever tolerate a family member's body being exposed and misused iin this way after such a horrific death?

Why, what an uncivil thing to say. Such an overheated and angry comment could cause violence like the president said it did in Arizona. We should have moderators screen peoples' comments before they are published. Peace out.

Please go to this poor boy's facebook page and "like" it. We have to start an avalanche of worldwide protest against that sick, sick regime.
