Tsa Patdown Woman

AOL Travel News:

Here's a video that's hard to watch. A shaky hand-held camera records a shrieking woman who has just gone through security and yells that a TSA officer "just molested" her at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix on May 28th.

"For God sakes somebody help me!" screams the woman as she demands the TSA agent be arrested.

This whole act was set up by this family. They did the same thing with the father a few weeks earlier. They are looking for their 15min of fame and want to sue. If they do not want to fly then they could drive.

I'm just glad the passengers I deal with at the airport I work at don't act this way. It's sad but she has a right to be a F@@L if she so chooses.

They may need to have psychiatrists at the airport too before they let people board.

For those who are still confused about the 4th Amendment and TSA please read 482 F.2d 893

UNITED STATES of America, Plaintiff-Appellee,
v.
Charles DAVIS aka Marcus Anderson, Defendant-Appellant.

No. 71-2993.

United States Court of Appeals,
Ninth Circuit

This happened in the 70's. B4 9/11......

http://openjurist.org/482/f2d/893/united-states-v-davis

When you buy your ticket you give the screeners and now TSA the right to bypass the 4th amendment. You give the TSA permission. If you don't want to give this up, take a car.

I think this was staged. Even if it was not, my doubts abound as to the validity of this woman's claims.

The police must investigate and arrest anyone accused of molesting another person. The police are not the judge and jury. It's their job to arrest anyone accused of molestation.

If I were robbed at gun point and the robber fled, I don't want the Police to show up and dismiss my claim because I interfered with their donut break.

your self aggrandizing stunt remains an embarrassment to actual journalists, to reporting with integrity, and our country's greatest freedom of protesting injustice and social inadequacies ...while you are completely entitled to your views on the state of the nation your cowardly staging of a serious issue undermines the severity of, and scope of, whats transpiring and places the emphasis of the rights of citizens within the category of fringe conspiracy theorists and wingnuts ....try actually investigating an issue instead of creating one, unless you are a FOX news viewer...then I completely understand your bias as they have never operated a day with any journalistic guidelines. A patriot stands up for actual injustice...a patriot does not INVENT injustice....

In defense of people who actually have been molested or sexually assaulted, I find this woman extremely offensive. Isn't it against the law to accuse someone of sexual assault when you haven't been?

How do you know the TSA agent did, or didn't act in an appropriate manner?

She was being patted down right in front of everyone and there wasn't time for sexual assault of any kind. Touching her breast in a pat down is NOT sexual assault.

But anyone who thinks they know for sure how or why, whether they be authoritarians or truthers, are most likely mistaken.

And how does groping grandma stop another 9/11?
Could someone hijack a plane with a small weapon anymore, let alone a nail clipper? Not at all.
05:23 PM on 06/03/2011
She wan NOT groped. She was simply patted down because she refused all other forms of screening yet still insisted on boarding a plane. If she didn't want to abide by the screening procedures, then she shouldn't have flown.

do you fly?....and if you do, do you create a scene about screening?
04:22 PM on 06/03/2011
Fact: Everyday people continue to attempt to board US commercial flights with guns, knives, and even explosive components, on their persons. These people are stopped in their tracks by the TSA and either detained for questioning and/or relieved of their contraband. This is not propaganda, if it were then it would make headline news, each and every day. Instead it is the reason we have the strict security guidelines we have. If you do not agree with these guideline, there are alternative means of transportation available to you.

Metal detectors should be able to find guns and knives, no problem.
Dogs can find explosives.

These Rapiscan machines are just a money grab, can't see low-density explosives, cause a reliance on technology that can't cut the mustard and is an uncalibrated x-ray machine of unknown intensity, and people who have the audacity of knowing this are groped. What about baggage screeners that won't see a b0mb because they are too busy looking for waterbottles?

These scans just offer a warm-fuzzy feeling, and according to European counterparts, cannot detect low-density materials. It's the reliance on technology over common sense that's creating the danger.

Well, that may be the case, but I have never seen such a pro-grope discussion here.
Just because this woman and her family are probably opportunists doesn't stop the fact that the TSA procedures are both invasive and ineffective.

I work for TSA and this woman is a straight clown that probably pre-planned this episode and had one of her buddies videotape her. We are not groping anyone, feeling anyone's breast or touching their crotch.

I feel sad for these people. I for one think they need to have psychologists and psychiatrists at the airport too because some of the passengers I come into contact with shouldn't be able to board anyone's plane and I definitely wouldn't want them on the one I was about to board.
04:02 PM on 06/03/2011
I would get behind these people if they were actually trying to do something about violation of rights but it certainly seems to me like it's more about getting themselves attention than anything. I am surprised she wasn't claiming that she would sue them for millions of dollars as well.
07:02 PM on 06/03/2011
She will probably try.
03:48 PM on 06/03/2011
I know these screener's personally and am personally familiar with this incident. The woman in the video, as well as her party, argued with and refused all other standard screening. The woman was warned that doing so would result in the pat-down procedure if she wanted to fly. She began screaming before the screener even touched her and her wailing increased as the process continued.
The officers and staff are correct in that you may not video nor photograph the screening process - this is for security purposes. He was committing a felony and should have, in fact, been arrested for not complying with orders to stop.
Simply put: EVERY air passenger is warned about the screening process and what to expect. In this case, the terminal she was flying from has 29 signs from the point in which she entered the terminal to the time she arrived at the screening area, all explaining her rights, what she was to expect, and what she could do about it. In short, she was made well aware, both in writing and verbally, of what to expect.
If you don't want to cooperate with the screening process, then don't fly. It's really just that simple.

Except when the choice is between a 6 hour flight and a 48 hour train ride, and someone needs to travel because of work.

If I don't want a Constitutional right violated I need to change MY schedule?

Oh, and tell your friends to get a real job.
04:07 PM on 06/03/2011
Some of you keep talking about violations of the constitution, specifically search and seizure (4th Amendment) but what none of you are realizing is that airports, as ports of entry, are Fourth Amendment Free Zones and therefore are not subject to the same regulations or laws.

...and it is also assuming that this search policy will stop at airport terminals, as seen with recent VIPR searches popping up in random areas.
02:46 PM on 06/03/2011
Considering this was all staged, the agents should sue the family for defamation.

Trust me, I'm an attorney...
02:48 PM on 06/03/2011
Whether or not it was staged is immaterial to whether or not it was defamation.
02:53 PM on 06/03/2011
It may be immaterial to a court of law, but it would be important to me if I was being accused of molestation. If I thought this woman was sincere, I still wouldn't like the accusation, but I would be willing to let it go. Seeing that this same family pulled the same stunt back in January, sorry, I'm lawyering up.
