CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs will produce an "It Gets Better" video, which takes a stand against anti-gay bullying and homophobia. The project has been in the works for more than a week and is set to be filmed after the team returns to Wrigley Field from its current 10-game road trip.

The Cubs will be the second professional sports team to participate in the "It Gets Better" campaign following the San Francisco Giants who released their video earlier this week.

"The Cubs applaud the Giants for their stand against anti-LGBT bullying. Bullying of anyone for any reason is unacceptable," said Laura Ricketts, Cubs owner and board member. "We are proud to join the Giants in taking a stand against bullying and encourage other professional sports organizations to do the same."

Definitely thought it was going to be a parody of the 'It Gets Better' campaign, aimed at mollifying the Cubs' ever-disappointed fan base. This is cool too though, probably better in fact.

Why lie to the kids because it doesn't get any better.

Better to give them the support they need to overcome what they will face everyday for the rest of their lives.

The only NOT getting better is the Cubs' record.

Born and raised in St. Louis. We grow up pressured to have a true hatred of the Cubs and their fans. It is taught from the very start that the Cub players are less than respectable men and the fans......even worse. Why? For the life of me I can't understand why the Cubs and all of it's fans are the sponges of hatred and ridicule from me and everyone else in St. Louis. From this day forward I promise.... that I am going to keep doing it and try to enjoy it even more.

Are the Cubs really ones to claim anything gets better? Their team hasn't gotten better in over 100 years.

Kudos to the Cubs. Even if the park were not adjacent to Boystown, it would still be the right thing to do.

Who gives a crap where it is. Why you mention it is beyond me. They're doing a good thing, focus on that.

I mention it only because—considering that only SF has done it so far—it might be construed as merely pandering to the neighbors and developing a potential fan base, not as the gracious gesture that it is.

You need to take a spin on the relaxometer.

I truly commend the Cubs' organization for doing this. Tremendous. Now if they could stop the other teams from 'bullying' them on the field that also would be tremendous.

Cub fan since '61...ouch.

As a fiercely loyal White Sox fan, I am proud of the Cubs for this. I hope others do the same soon.

I clicked on this momentarily forgetting this was Dan Savage's project. I thought they were talking to Cubs fans in general. We'll have an openly gay president before the Cubs win the World Series(unless of course we beat Miami in 2015 as I listen to the game on the radio in my flying car while sporting a self-drying jacket and power shoelaces).

President Obama already has posted a "It Gets Better."

Way to go Cubbies!! Now if only a Lebron James... a Kobe Bryant... a Michael Jordan... a Marshall Matthers... a Jay-Z... a Beyonce... a 50cent... a President Obama... a Sarah Palin... a Roush Limbaugh... a Kanye West... a Christina Aguilara... a Reba McIntire... a Rascal Flatts... a Will Smith... a Mel Gibson... a Andy Rooney... all of the WWE stars... an Army of One... a SEAL team 6... a Pope Benedict... could do something similar! Obama said it already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzcAR6yQhF8 . But you're right, more celebrities and major figures from all different areas of society need to say it. I hate hate.

Maybe "It gets Better" when the Cubs win a game or two. Another year already over.

It's sad the discussion below got a little derailed, but I do remember seeing a particularly interesting redeye newspaper on my way to work a couple years ago. The discussion below made me think of it and the progress but somewhat naive train of thought that comes with living in certain parts of Chicago. This is just a response to those who refuse to accept that Chicago has made major progress, but this is also for those who think we have achieved some social utopia. It took a little digging but I did find the article.
