Legal Drug 'Spice' Grows In Popularity Among Teens

Spice Legal Pot

First Posted: 06/04/11 01:07 PM ET Updated: 08/04/11 06:12 AM ET

A potent drug known as "spice" is being sold to high school students across the country, ABC News reports.

"Spice," also known as "K2" or "legal marijuana," is sold as incense and typically consists of chemicals sprayed on to dried leaves. The product isn't marketed for human consumption.

However, when smoked, the product has a similar effect to marijuana, but is said to be many times stronger.

The drug is legal and accessible to many teens. Although it should only be sold to people 18 years and older, an ABC investigation found that younger teens were easily able to purchase "spice."

The controversial drug has been linked to deaths and accidents, including the suicide of 18-year-old David Rozga, who shot himself after smoking it.

Having smoked several packs of this stuff, I would say it is about like comparing a Jolt next to a beer. it is not strong at all and only lasts about 1 hour.

Whomever is saying this is 100 times stronger than pot is the biggest idi.ot of all the time of man on earth.

Smoking a cigarette will get you higher than this stuff. The only affect it has that I can tell so far is it makes you paranoid.

100 times stronger than pot??? hahahahahahahahahah hahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahaha

White Flower Oil (http://embrocation.50webs.com) was introduced to me by my mother. During one of my headaches, she gave me this tiny bottle of oil and told me to massage it on my temples and forehead. Amazingly, it worked! Somehow the oil penetrates into the affected area and relieves the pain.

Legalize pot and the problem (if it is a problem) is solved. I happen to think watching television is far more destructive to the human mind than any natural drugs people take. The desire to use drugs is often the result of wanting to educate oneself or expand the mind. Education today has become boring and the worthless regurgitation of facts. It's no wonder that kids are taking matters into their own hands.

Gotta love how something harmful like Spice remains legal while something harmless/beneficial like MJ remains illegal.

If you prohibit marijuana, kids will make up something actually dangerous to smoke.
Mary Jane does not kill, prohibition does.

The whole article is wrong. I used to sell it back when it was legal in my state, the effects are noticeably weaker than marijuana.

The reason its not marketed for human consumption is because of a loop hole in the law.

Paranoia and Fear propaganda is all this article represents.

Kids can also get, alcohol, tobacco, weed, etc... easily.

Why are people so desperate to get high? I never understood it. I guess I just wasn't curious about drugs, so I never did them. Or maybe I just know about cause and effect...

If I understand you correctly, are you insinuating that weed universally causes undesirable effects? If that is what you mean by "cause and effect", I would have to disagree - not only is it far less dangerous than alcohol or tobacco, it is not chemically addictive. Of course some people will abuse it, just as some people abuse McDonalds, but it is not intrinsically bad. Many people (such as myself) are able to live quite successfully and still smoke frequently.

No, that's not at all what I was talking about. There are, of course, legal ramifications for possessing illegal drugs. And while weed may not be chemically addicting, it is mentally addicting. My brother INSISTS that he NEEDS marijuana for his depression, while his psychiatrist explained to him that it's probably making it worse. Not to mention that just as a matter of habit, weed is, in a way, "addicting." And, last I checked, inhaling smoke--of any kind--isn't good for a person. I agree that weed isn't as bad as alcohol and tobacco, which is why I don't drink or smoke, either.

"marijuana has been consumed for thousands of years without a single reported human fatality"

It's a slow death of human potential for the pot head in deep. People claim there isn't a physical addiction but there is definitely a psychological addiction. Coffee drinkers gotta have their cup no doubt. But, true pot heads center their life around it. Worship that leads to apathy. All things in moderation --- even pot.

"It's a slow death of human potential"...so is life

You contradict yourself. Doing ANYTHING in excess is bad. You could never smoke pot in your life and still be a lazy person crawling towards death. Everyone is HEADED there. Some people just choose to enjoy themselves along the way in various fashions.

Here we go again. Last year it was four loko this year it's spice. You people never learn.
01:26 PM on 06/05/2011
um I think they're exaggerating slightly. It is more dangerous than weed because you can OD on it but I have a lot of friends who smoke K2 and they all say it's not as 'good' as weed so I doubt it's more potent. And as for the suicide, I really don't think it causes anything like that because if it did I would know a lot more dead people. I think David had some problems of his own.

Stab wounds, dog bites, bleach, x-rays, cigarettes, and spiders are all more dangerous than MJ. I dislike how the news compares everything to pot. "Worse than" is what I see most often. It's VERY easy to be worse than something that isn't bad to begin with.
