Sidney Crosby Retirement Rumors 'Disappointing,' His Agent Says

Sidney Crosby Retirement

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/04/11 11:11 PM ET Updated: 08/04/11 06:12 AM ET

For whatever reason, rumors continue to circulate that NHL star Sidney Crosby is contemplating retirement after his season-ending concussion.

But there is no truth to them, Crosby's agent Pat Brisson once again reiterated on Saturday.

"Sidney is working out on his off-season program with every intention of returning to the NHL when he's deemed healthy by doctors and the start of the NHL season is still months away," Brisson said, per TSN's Bob McKenzie.

Brisson continued, "It is very disturbing and disappointing to me when someone from the media, especially an ex-player, makes baseless comments regarding the medical status of a player."

The ongoing rumor started back in March when Fan590 Toronto sports personality Bob McCown suggested members of Crosby's family were encouraging him to retire. NESN reported that there was no merit to the rumors, citing Crosby's father Troy and his agent Brisson.

Some have said that the rumors simply began because critics are jealous of Crosby's success and eager to tear him apart for failing to return for his team's playoff run, which ended with a first-round loss to Tampa Bay.

Watch the Winter Classic hit on Crosby from Washington's David Steckel that triggered Crosby's concussion problems this year:

Never mind the fact that Sid was hit when he was nowhere near the puck and it was a dirty hit. Seriously, go watch the vid, I dare you to say it wasn't a dirty hit.

Sid,

Don't sacrifice your health for a career. We love you.

It's too bad there is no such thing as fate or divine retribution, because Crosby richly earned this. Years spent complaining and whining while inspiring a new generation of people of the virtues of narcissism have likely already turned many fine Canadians into complete wanks.

You're kidding, right? I certainly hope so, for your sake.

Crosby is one is the biggest crybabies in hockey. Pittsburburgh has some of the dirtiest players and they get away with alot of crap, but if something happens to poor little Crybaby Crosby, they league will get you.

How exactly did the league get anyone? Was Steckel suspended? Was Hedman? I'm not saying they should have been, but to say that "the league will get you" is just not true.

Anyone who watched the playoff series between Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay would not claim that Pittsburgh gets "away with alot of crap". And how can one be a crybaby when he's not only to the road to league high scorer but also on the road to be one of hockey's greatest players? Very contradictory. And I like how you say the 'league will get you'. Vindictive much? Seriously, which team do you root for? I'm assuming it's one the Pens beat quite frequently. And how nice of you to celebrate the fact that this fellow human being has suffered a major concussion.

Crosby's injury is indicative of a larger problem in hockey, and the inaction by the league. They very clearly care more about the fans, who often pay to see this kind of garbage play. Well, the league needs to wake up and see that if all their players are injured, there will be no hockey.

Bob McCown should retire. Any man who wears sunglasses indoors spews lies.

Not to mention his blatant r@cism. I don't think he's ever shown anything but contempt for Cito Gaston. Even when he managed the Blue Jays to consecutive World Series titles, McCown would say he's not fit to manage a major league baseball team.

The rumour going around Pitts was not just a concussion but that he also had a detached retina.

The Center Ice Line needs to come back, because if it doesn't the game is going to get too fast and people are going to get killed out there with the hits being dished out. The NHL is responsible for this for trying to make the game faster after the lockout, all they did was make it more dangerous for the players because of concussions. Bring back the center ice line, and stop some of the madness!

People get hurt doing all sorts of things. If you really want to keep everyone safe then ban people leaving their houses and force them to play Second Life, also ban stairs.

David Steckel should be retired.

This is disgusting. I made it an effort not to follow hockey at all this season, and the concussion given to Sidney Crosby is a big reason why. If the NHL, and its legion of kool-aid drinking acolytes, can't see past it, then there's no hope at all for its future.

Well said. Hockey isn't hockey, it's like a big bar fight with an occasional game in between.

Fanned and fave'd.

Nonsense you obviously dont watch hockey. The GAME is as good as ever with the new faster 'clutch and hold free' NHL. Yhe lone issue remaining is the head shots and this has to be addresses.

I don't know if Sid has been out this long because of the severity of the concussion or they're just being hyper careful.

I do know that if he gets hit like that again (or even not as hard) he will be gone.

I hope he comes back the game needs him. He's the best player in the NHL he proved that in the first half of the season b4 he went down.
10:32 PM on 06/05/2011
He is not the best player in the NHL. He also proved that he is not much of a leader and does not have much class during the Winter Classic when he was the first one off the ice at the end of the game and they did not shake hands. They were the first team to not shake hands at the end of the game during the Winter Classic. Pretty classless if you ask me. Pavel Datsyuk has way more puck handling skills than Crosby does and more talented. Crosby is not much of a team player and cannot stick up for himself. You will see Ovi willing to stand up for himself and anyone else.

While I don't like the way he plays hockey, nobody deserves the kind of injury he's had to deal with. I hope he makes a full recovery; then I'll go back to trash talking him once he's back on the ice. ;-)

He's not going to retire but these a chance he wont be the same. The guy was out for 6 months.
