Richard Gere, Kim Kardashian, Denzel Washington and Justin Bieber are among dozens of celebrities who have signed the Hollywood Pledge, a public commitment to boost support for charities dearest to their hearts.

Their efforts would mean something if THEY put their OWN money into the charities.

Libs like to tell other people how to spend the money they earn. Time to lead with your own money if the charity is so near to your heart.

Time is money and when a celebrity, liberal, conservative or otherwise, donates their time and effort and their donation driving "fame" to a charity fund raiser they should be commended. They are donating that which makes them money and isn't that actually better than just having their accountant simply write a check. And in many cases, most cases in fact, they arrive to do their "jobs" at these events with a personal check in hand. Celebrity may seem like a nice leisurely life but I suspect it is anything but. My experience is that the people that rise to the top of any aspect of human life generally do so because of lots of hard, focused work.
I got no beef with anyone telling me how they think I should spend my money. They can put billboards if they like. I draw the line with libs when the make the government take money from me and spending it on "charity".

Uh huh. You go ahead and commend them for showing up at a rubber chicken fundraiser.

I will commend them when they LEAD by donating the money they EARNED for the cause - if they do that, then I am likely to pay attention. Showing up for an ad or something? Not so much.

I have no opinion on celebrities and the money they earn though. They can do with it what they wish.

Nice to hear that Hollywood is trying to make a difference. Two things for all of the celebs. Don't put your face to it and walk away (remember Haiti) and don't use your media access to pummel the populace with the tree of guilt for not doing "our part". I applaud these celebrities for their actions, but don't turn this into nothing but another feel good photo-op. To be fair, I know many celebrities start their own foundations and give a lot to charity, but keep things in perspective.

Richard Gere donates. He put his career on the line many times. After 9/11 he spoke up an told Bush how to act. Of course, that didn't happen. But had it happened, the USA would be a better place today. Gere has got guts. Except for the fact he was in a movie where they didn't know how to havest corn, and made mule seed corn in acres and acres it could never seed. He's a city boy....
