This Week In Ridiculous Stock Photos: Business People vs. Nature (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 06/05/11 12:33 PM ET   Updated: 08/05/11 06:12 AM ET

Among all the the unintentionally hilarious stock photos we make fun of every week, "business people" are the biggest repeat offenders. Whether they're using megaphones or doing yoga or looking sad at bars, they're always demonstrating one of about 10 cliches, the latest of which is their struggle with the great outdoors.

You might see these "Business people vs. nature" photos in pamphlets about global warming or ads for corporate retreats, but we think they're better suited for comedy. Vote for the most ridiculous one!

"Dammit who threw my keys in here?!"

I hate to say it but I can't figure out whether meh or marvelous is the "this is a really stupid picture" response.

As an avid fisherman, it is always easy to point out folks who obviously haven't held a fishing pole in their life before. The gentleman in the first photo is either a case-in-point or was instructed to model that way.

Also...I love that no line is going through the eyelits of the pole and it almost looks as though there is no line on the reel at all.

Yeah, but you know what THEY say...

Uh, that's a spinning reel, not a spin-cast reel. The only thing is his right hand should be higher up the pole, closer to the reel.
02:04 PM on 06/07/2011
Uh, not sure where you are going with this. I did not call a spinning reel a 'spin-cast' reel but thanks for clearing up something I already know. And the fact is the man's right had should be up near the where reel meets the real seat while the left hand should be running the reel handle.

Reminds me of Nixon, wanting to appear more human, wearing a suit to a beach for a photo op. Guess I'm showing my age.

Anyone who's fished more than a few times in their life, would instantly recognize that that businessman has never held a fishing rod in his hands before. Therefore it could only be a stock photo setup. When a child holds a fishing rod and reel for the very first time, that is exacatly how they hold it. Dont ask for an explaination, if you are in the know, it's unmistakeable.

Yup.

Actually I'm a little surprised he didn't flip it over so the reel was on top. ;)
12:49 PM on 06/06/2011
Very good point :)

He probably did on the 1st take and then they all huddled and said, "I think the reel goes on the bottom".....take 2....
02:14 PM on 06/06/2011
Indeed. Looks like an empty reel too.

Good illustration of the conflict between business practices and nature. Nature may be on the run but in the end will determine our fate. Is that 1st one casting dynamite?

What? No one wearing suit while cutting bait?

They should show business people with flame throwers torching every plant and animal in sight.

Then there would finally be a stock photo that could be inserted in quarterly profits reports that accurately reflects how businesses treat the environment in their pursuit of ever greater profits.

despise suit-people.

"uh, yes, hello, I'm wearing a suit, as you can see, I'm very important...very important...uh, yes...very, very important."
