John Edwards Indicted: Daughter Cate Edwards Lends Support

Parents are embarrassing. It's part of our job description. We wear the wrong clothes or talk too loudly or just breathe. Yet it could always be worse: as if it weren't bad enough that former presidential hopeful and U.S. Senator John Edwards fathered a love child while publicly professing to truly, madly, deeply love his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, a grand jury now suspects he may have illegally spent money earmarked for his presidential campaign to secret away his paramour and their baby daughter.

It really doesn't matter what we say or think, Cate has every right to love and stand by HER father. She is the only one walking in those shoes and has lived the nightmare. WE really don't KNOW what happened in the Edwards home, but Cate does. So maybe it's best that we all hold judgement about her being with her father.

She doesn't look happy. I'm sure she is well aware that she is being used as a prop. He's been a terrible father to his children and has handed them untold burdens to bear. The pain of her father's betrayal of her mother must be agonizing for this young woman. The cavalier attitude of her father toward her mother and toward all his children must be a very sore place for her to reside emotionally.

They say wealth and power corrupts. I think we have seen plenty of proof of that over the last few weeks, months, years, etc.

I give her kudos. Can't be easy to be by his side. That's love.

I don't blame Miss Edwards. She should stand by her father. He's human and he made a human mistake. Because I can't throw stones, I'm going to wish him luck with his case; which should never have been filed.

I feel for her. She just lost her mother. I'm sure she loves her father deeply despite how he's hurt her mother and herself. He's the only parent she has left. It's nice to see her there even though he doesn't deserve it. All of Edwards' children are between a rock and a hard place. It's a tragedy of Greek proportions all around.

I somewhat agree. Parents are embarrassing - they wear sandals with socks or drink wine with ice cubes in the glass but they don't make sex tapes with mistresses, deny child from affair in order to run for office. Lousy spouses do. He should count himself very lucky that she is there by his side and still talking to him.

I have tremendous sympathy for children who have to reconcile the love for their father with the terrible pain he caused their mother they love, and who have to learn to live with the fact that someone they loved and trusted destroyed their family; I have no sympathy for the husband/father whose selfishness put his family through this.

What he did to his wife was despicable but there is no need to say things like that. You have no idea what his relationship with his daughter is and there is no reason to assume he is using her.

If you had even a quarter of a brain and knew how to read, you would know that his former mistress is not with him anymore. You would also look at yourself in a mirror and say what you wrote out loud, and see if you can look yourself in the eye without being ashamed.

I understand that his daughter loves him, yet this man has lied over and over about his mistress, betrayed her mother when she was dying and also hurt his children big time....I don't trust this man because he has shown what he really is...a liar....I know I can look in the mirror, unlike him....yet he is human and we all make mistakes...so in all honesty,I don't wish ill on him because his children have been through enough....
