Eliot Spitzer Talks Anthony Weiner Scandal (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/07/11 08:49 AM ET Updated: 08/07/11 06:12 AM ET

Every cable news show covered the Anthony Weiner scandal on Monday, but perhaps no program had as big an elephant in its room as Eliot Spitzer's "In The Arena." The CNN show couldn't avoid the story, but it also couldn't avoid the fact that its host had been engulfed in a very similar scandal of his own. Spitzer chose to address the matter head-on.

Speaking about Weiner's press conference, he said, "It was the kind of moment that neither politicians nor journalists should be proud of, and believe me, I know. I've been there."

Later, while discussing the issue with a panel, Spitzer talked about Weiner's decision not to resign.

"The decision to resign is a deeply personal one, and let me be very upfront about this, as most folks probably know, I made the other decision. I did resign," he said.

I'm beginning to think these stories are now just being written to justify the headlines. Seriously? So why not just get them all out of the way:

"Spitzer Measures Weiner's Impact"
"Spitzer's Connection to Weiner"
"Weiner & Spitzer" Any questions?

I think I'll stop now. But so that the fun can continue, someone please teach Boehner how to use Twitter, stat!

Let's create a committee to handle the morality of Weenie Boy's actions. Spitzer, Vittter, Ensign, Edwards and all the others who have "experience" with this stuff and lets make Bill Clinton the chairman. Help us solve this issue gentleman. You are experts in it. But remember we're going to have your wives critique whatever you say and they will have the final word. Don't you just know they will not consider it a big deal? Boys will be boys. Everyone who believes that raise your hand. You over there who raised your hand, who are you? The Governor from South Carolina and his mistress are recognized.

From what I understand, and granted all info is not available yet, Weiner did not have actual sex with these women AND the majority of his involvement was during the time he was single.
01:38 PM on 06/09/2011
By jove, I think you've hit on something. Let me see how that rule might be stated. If half of your imbecilic, immature and perverted behavior was done when you were single, who cares. We forgive the naked picture sent out to a college student. Who believes this, raise your hand. And another thing, if you don't actually have sex what the heck? That would allow for nude pictures and exploitation of children to go free, after all there no real sex involved. Who believes that raise your hand. I thought so. Sorry the new legislation fails by a vote of 250 to 3. And check the computers of the three who voted yes.

What are you ranting and raving about? What children have been exploited? Two adults can send pictures of themselves to each other.

The fact that Spitzer covered this story head on is an admirable thing . He didn't have to and very well could have shirked it. I've seen him on other shows (even, on his own,) take a ribbing about his--for lack of a better term--indiscretions. As for resigning, Spitzer didn't have a choice. He was a politician that came down like an iron fist under his administration as an attorney general and as governor. Spitzer had higher political aspirations with which his particular scandal would have sunk him. Weiner, on the other hand is a dime-a-dozen-representative that should have thought before he tweeted.

The truly sad thing with regard to Spitzer is that his actions truly ended up hurting this nation because he should have been in line to have been President in 2010.

You are a Spitzer advocate; as a consequence you exaggerate his seeming virtues.
There is no accounting for taste.

Spitzer should've declined to comment and just sat there thankful he has a job. It's one thing to sext, but to drop $4K+ on an average looking hooker is a whole different story...

why don't you revise history some more? Did you forget that both Senate and Congress approved both wars with overwhelming majority using the same information available to president Bush?
05:13 PM on 06/10/2011
Did you forget about the WMDs? I think the only person you should read history is you. The senate voted for the wars based on a big lie. And thousands people died as a result of it.

The Senate and Congress swallowed the fabrications of the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice cabal. They along with the American Enterprise Institute and Wolfowitz, Kristol and Bolton among others, totally fabricated out of whole clothe, the basis for a w@r of aggression waged against Iraq. During the Clinton administration this same group had written a letter to Pres. Clinton urging him to invade Iraq under any guise, but to secure a foothold in the Middle East oil producing region.

When are we going to go after C Street and find out what happens there ? Rachel has had programs on it, but, hey, it's Republicans doing it ! Yet, these same guys come out against Mr. Weiner and make themselves look like the Saints, they aren't !

If you take the time to wind through the spider web you will find that K street is very much hooked into the Christian Dominionist movement. Palin, Huckabee, Bachmann, and tons of our reps.

Let the Politicans be furious with Weiner. Who will throw the first stone?

Partisans making excuses for their own politicians.  This is a cute little setup the elites have -- and it's why we tolerate garbage representation, dishonesty, and corruption in politics.

despite the fact that what they did was nasty & sleazy, had eliot spitzer not been going after wall street the way he did and were anthony weiner not going on the offensive at justice thomas, their scandals would never have emerged.

The Weiner scandal is about his character, to be specific, his lack of morals & integrity. His actions and his attempt to remain in office reinforce this fact.

Depends ... are they single? Married congressmen should not be sending pictures of their junk to single women. If we cannot expect our elected officials to maintain a higher than usual moral standing how can we trust that they are not accepting bribes or acting as agents of foreign governments? These people have been entrusted with the care of our country, they are expected to be of a higher moral character than everyone else.
