A whole new kind of classic is emerging. You don't need an app to have a great book with videos. This is not a commercial posting as the ebook I am recommending is free and contains no advertising. From your iPad go to the itunes book store and get "Box Head Man". It's a wonderful children's enhanced ebook and is not an app. Because it contains videos it takes longer to download than a regular ebook but the time is shorter than an app. There have been nearly five thousand Box Head Man enhanced ebooks downloaded in the past couple of months. It was the very first children's enhanced ebook published and was done as an example of what the future can bring without having to build an app. The author has a second one finished and it is now being programed to go into the iTunes store soon.

What can touch-screen tablets do for the classics?  Nothing that the classics can't do all by themselves, thank you very much.

Thank you very much for pointing that out. It's a whole new world coming. Digital natives will have new and interesting books that are not tree-ware. Interactive books where you can use your imagination to participate in the story. The future of books is bright and beautiful. My bet is that Box Head Man is going to become the very first children's classic with many more classics to come.
