Anthony Weiner Photos: Congressman Sent X-Rated Pictures Of Himself

AP/The Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/08/11 09:10 PM ET Updated: 08/08/11 06:12 AM ET

Anthony Weiner's office says in a statement that he sent explicit photos of himself. A spokeswoman made the statement Wednesday as an X-rated photo turned up on the Internet.

The photo, which shows a man's genitals, was published by a website after conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart showed it to the hosts of Sirius XM radio's Opie & Anthony Show.

Separately, officials say Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant. A spokesman at the State Department, where she is a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, had no comment, but several Democrats said the couple had told their friends.

Weiner is facing calls for the first time for his resignation from Democrats, led by Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania.

"In light of Anthony Weiner's offensive behavior online, he should resign," Schwartz, a member of the party campaign committee's leadership, said in a statement that was quickly followed by similar expressions from other Democrats.

Separately, as the political scandal increasingly roiled the Democratic Party, several officials said that Weiner's wife, Huma Abedin, was pregnant. An official at the State Department, where Abedin serves as deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, had no comment.

Weiner, 46, has admitted sending explicit photos and messages via the Internet to about a half-dozen women over the past three years. He vowed at a news conference on Monday to remain in office, and one lawmaker who spoke to him on Wednesday said Weiner indicated he still hopes to ride out the furor and remain in Congress. That lawmaker spoke on condition of anonymity, saying it was a private conversation.

But the appearance of a photo of a man's genitals added yet another aspect to what appears to be a sex scandal without actual sex in the age of social media. According to conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart, Weiner sent the picture of himself to one of the women with whom he corresponded online.

The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm that the photo is of Weiner. On Wednesday, spokeswoman Risa B. Heller noted in a statement that Weiner had said at a news conference on Monday that he "has sent explicit photos. To reiterate, he has never met any of these women or had physical contact with them."

The photo made its way to the website Gawker by a circuitous route, after Breitbart showed it to the hosts of Sirius XM radio's Opie and Anthony Show.

By day's end Wednesday, at least six House Democrats had called for Weiner to step down.

Schwartz was the first, and politically the most significant because of her position as a senior leader on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Weiner's predicament has rocked the Democratic Party, particularly the women who hold leadership posts and have faced a choice between calling for a resignation or hoping that refraining from doing so would lead him to quit without being told.

In the interim, few pass up the chance to signal to Weiner that he should step down.

The head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Sen. Patty Murray, told reporters during the day that Weiner's troubles "of course" complicate the party's efforts ahead of in the 2012 elections.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. said, "I just view it with great surprise and dismay. That's all I can say."

Feinstein and Murray were first elected to the Senate in 1992, the so-called "year of the women" that was a watershed in Democratic political history.

The party's leader in the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California has called for an ethics committee investigation to see whether Weiner's actions violated any House rules.

Pelosi and the party's chairwoman, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, declined to respond directly on Tuesday when the Republican chairman, Reince Priebus, urged them to say whether they believe Weiner should step down.

The Democratic National Committee has adamantly refused to comment, while a spokesman in Wasserman Schultz's congressional office has said only that she supports Pelosi's call for an ethics investigation. By contrast, the former Democratic Party chairman, Tim Kaine, has urged Weiner to quit. Kaine is running for the Senate in Virginia.

While declining to make any public comments since Monday, Weiner has been on something of an apology tour by telephone. He has contacted fellow House members and former President Bill Clinton, who officiated at the congressman's wedding to Abedin nearly a year ago.

The officials who spoke about the telephone calls did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were private matters.

Hi. If Bill Clinton using the cigar with Monica Lewinsky didn't force him to step down, why should Weiner? Many/alot/most men need some sort of visual stimulation. And, sure. It's important to postpone stimulating rushes and highs; however, frankly, I think this sort of titilation is harmless. Come on....how many politicians lie to us.....it's their M.O. Not all, but so very many.Unfortunately, Clinton, Weiner, Spitzer, and others didn't want to go fishing. If they had, life would have been too boring; they needed diversion from the pressures of their ongoing life.
If Weiner needs stimulation now, I can't imagine how he's going to do as #2 after the baby, and a busy/tired mother's lack of sexual interest.....to be continued.

An absolutely "WORTHLESS" article ! A "REHASH" of already known facts ! AOL...you can do a lot better than this ! I HOPE !

He needs to resign. He dont need to be on any kind of goverment office position. If he stays I would think he would not be voted in again. He is sick and disturbed. It is wrong to keep him in office.

He seems to be very proud of his body, which does look really good, but photographing yourself is a bit wierd and then to mail it out......oh well.
10:18 AM on 06/14/2011
This is what happens when you live your life through Face Book ! 100% "SELFESS" ! We don't need Mr. Weiner in this position ! He needs to go home and waste his time...not ours!

What will make Weiner's actions illegal, will be if he did the said deed while working at the expense of the American taxpayer.

He says that he never used phones that are paid for by the American taxpayer, but at least one of ladies confesses to calling back to the same number, and finding that it was for outgoing calls from the Capitol in Washington, D.C. If that is indeed true, then what he did at that time is illegal. PERIOD!

Since Weiner confessed to taking the latest picture of his unclothed crotch, I hope someone will quickly call Joy Behar, and let her know that the crotch in the picture does not belong to Andrew Breitbart. In order to throw the scandal away from Weiner, she suggested that the naked penis in question might belong to someone other than Weiner, and that it might belong to Breitbart.

Behar might need to take a refresher class in understanding that even her heroes might fail.

Joy Behar is one of those individuals that will NEVER believe that ANY of HER PEOPLE could do anything wrong. That's why those type of people have to "redefine" the words that normal people use. They place the illegality of something on whether the person used a government pencil to do an illegal deed instead of looking at the "OBVIOUS" infraction!

Come on over to the "real world" Joy !

The Man (weiner) has admitted sending the photos ! It don't matter whether he used his personal blackberry or government blackberry to do it ! He's a pervert ! "Modern Human" or NOT...He's a pervert.

How is it what this man did was so horrible yet Newt gets to run for president. Newt actually cheated physically with another woman. Although I consider this cheating it is certaoinly not on the same level as having an affair.
05:12 PM on 06/11/2011
Even though I am a conservative Republican, that is the very reason I refuse to vote for Newt.

According to all the "LIBS" having a fling with a neighbor, whether man or woman or collie, is acceptible. Express yourself, experiment, circulate, enjoy, etc. Sounds like a great plan...if you want to get a STD ! BUT, putting pictures of your private parts on the Internet? Come on... This man has got to go! I don't think even Joy Behar can say this is OK! However, she has surprised us before! Good Grief !!!

How is this worse than beastiality? he didnt hurt anyone by what he did and it was not illegal

Is there no law that condemns the act of spreading another person's sexual photos without the person in the picture's consent?

What the heck? I would be suing this Andrew Breitbart. Who gives him the authority to spread such personal photos?

Surely, it can't be Freedom of Press...
10:44 AM on 06/14/2011
DO WHAT ?!!! Dude...I think that putting your 'NAKED" photos on an open forum (internet) would do away with your expectation of privacy...don't you ? Weiner himself sort of let the cat out of the bag (don't ya know)!
02:14 PM on 06/11/2011
It's a junkshot, big deal. He's human, no matter what profession you are in. If you're going to lack respect for the man then it shouldn't be because of his sexual proclivities. If you were to go out into a crowd, tell them to close their eyes and ask them if they've ever sexted or taken a sexual photo and sent it to someone - I wager the majority would put their hand up. It was just unfortunate that this thing became public because to be honest - what business is it of ours, what he gets up to in his sex life. It should be about his efficiency as a politician - not his...sexcapades.
10:49 AM on 06/14/2011
I don't know what crowd you run with, but I can guarantee this is NOT true with "Normal People" ! Do you actually think that (to use your words) ...the "MAJORITY" of people have "taken a sexual photo and sent it to someone:? Really ? You might ought to check with a Dr. (shrink) !!!
09:11 AM on 06/16/2011
I think you might be very embarassed and very naive about sex. And for that, I do apologise.
09:29 PM on 06/16/2011
toosie.... you might want to do some checking yourself. sexting has become such a problem, especially with the younger generation, that states have either already passed laws dealing with such or they are considering passing laws. so "normal" or not... taking a sexy picture and sending it to someone you're interested in seems to span not only generational gaps but culture, creed, religion, and social status as well.

You`re right, he is. And why is he such a household name to this day ? Because he blew his load all over an ugly fat chick in the Oval Office. What a legacy.

It's so hard to believe in this day and age of immediate electronic media that folks are soooo naive as to think that the photo's they send out into the world wide web won't end up splashed on some page to wreak havoc with their professional lives down the road?! Where are their brains and simple common sense?
