Jennifer Love Hewitt: Worst Actress Since 1985, According To Rotten Tomatoes

Jennifer Love Hewitt

She stole hearts in "Can't Hardly Wait" and even showed the knack to talk with ghosts on CBS, but when it comes to awards an actress doesn't want to win, Jennifer Love Hewitt takes home the big golden (rotten) tomato.

According to Christopher Beam and Jeremy Singer-Vine at Slate.com, who used their access to movie review aggregator RottenTomatoes.com's gigantic database to chart out critical reception to director and actor performance, Love Hewitt is the worst-reviewed actress since 1985, the cutoff date they established as a modern era for reviews unaffected by nostalgia and the easier critics of the past.

Hewitt has the rare distinction of never having made a single "fresh" (above 60 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) film. Her average score of 18.9 owes to such duds as "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit" (7 percent), "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (35 percent), "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" (7 percent), and both "Garfield" movies (15 percent and 11 percent, respectively).

Pretty gruesome, but not quite as bad as Chuck Norris. His score? 18.4. Of course, that doesn't count tired out internet memes; otherwise, his score would be even lower.

To be fair to Love Hewitt, she did just score a Golden Globe nomination for her work in the TV movie "The Client List," scored solid ratings with her now-canceled CBS show "The Ghost Whisperer," and is rumored to be up to join "Law & Order: SVU" as a replacement for Mariska Hargitay. And plus, who didn't love (the first) "I Know What You Did Last Summer" thriller?

Worst actress since '85? I think not. Sure, she's been in some duds. But even taking into account only her starring roles (not minor background characters, like in Sister Act 2), she doesn't come close to worst actress. One only has to watch the Twilight films to find the real worst actress of the last 25 years, Kristen Stewart. And no, I'm not saying that because I hate Twilight. I'm saying that because Stewart truly is one of the worst actresses of all time.

If they replaced Mariska Hartigay with her, I'd move to Tanzania.

my family and I are watching ghost whisperer reruns the lead actors and supporting actors in that TV series were charasmatic...will continue to watch Jennifer and hoefully all cast members in the future

Actually, she's tied with Drew Barrymore and Will Smith. That's right, all three of these ladies suck at acting!

I love JLH. I don't care what Rotten Tomatoes says. She's probably just not "cool" enough for them;

I think that Rotten Tomatoes should do a poll on the most over-rated actresses next. Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow come to mind.

Angelina Jolie & Julia Roberts would definitely be on that list.

Who cares? This is just mean. Okay, she ain't a great actress (probably better than either Jennifer Aniston, or Courtney Cox), but my guess is she makes more money than anyone posting mean things about her here. Crying all the way to the bank?

And making more money is validation of what....?

This is bad reporting that serves no useful purpose. Most people would know those ratings are based on success of the MOVIES the actor has been in, (and what does that mean anyway), not reliable in any way to rate the actor, as all actors have had bad roles and been in bad movies. Jennifer was cute as a button in "Heartbreakers" and did a fine job of playing Audrey Hepburn. I hate this kind of flimsy reporting.

Golden Globe nomination for The Client List? Really? I couldn't tell if that movie was a drama or comedy, or just a plain old tragedy.

This is why I mocked the idea of being a good actor in another article here on HuffPo. Jennifer had the look to get a certain demographic excited and willing to spend money. Its like Justin Bieber proves that one needs no talent to bilk millions from teenage girls who only care about how he looks.

Well she wouldn't be alone in this category. She has Rachel McAdams for company. McAdams gave probably one of the absolute worst performances in "Morning Glory". How do these no-talents get these opportunities? Astonishing. And...sad.
