Nancy Pelosi Declines To Call For Anthony Weiner's Resignation

WASHINGTON — Amid increasing calls for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.

The former speaker said in San Francisco that she believes the decision should be made by "the individual member" and the people in his district.

Weiner, a seven-term Democrat, has admitted sending sexually explicit photos and messages over the Internet to a half dozen women over the past three years. Pelosi has asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate whether Weiner used any government resources.

Weiner told a newspaper Thursday he would not resign. At least nine House members and three senators said he should quit.

Two former Democratic Party chairmen also said he should resign.

Weiner did pick up support from Rep. Charles Rangel, a New York Democrat who was censured by the House last year for ethics violations.

Rangel suggested that other members of Congress had done things more immoral than Weiner.

Rangel said Weiner "wasn't going with prostitutes. He wasn't going out with little boys."

In a recent poll of registered voters in Weiner's district, 56 percent said he should stay in office while 33 percent said he should leave.

This is such a fun issue to debate with the right wing. They are driven to form opinions without any evidence of criminality or unethical behavior. They profess to believe in government getting out of our lives, leaving people alone, yet wish to get involved in this. Admittedly, there is a degree of questionable conduct when someone 'sexts' while married, but since when is it anybody's business what two  Read More...

Nancy...! Please ask formally for Mr. Weiner's resignation...he is asking us all to "wait, wait, wait..." like a spoiled 12 year-old.

Even though their crimes are small or even non-existent, our "system" quickly & efficiently silences progressive voices (Weiner, Spitzer, Jones, Sherrod, ACORN, etc) while protecting the more outrageous antics of corporate stooges like Vitter, Craig, Ensign, Gingrich

Nancy Pelosi is heavily invested in the system, and she will ultimately be rewarded for playing ball. Besides Pelosi, you would want to count 100% of elected Republicans, probably 95% of elected Democrats. And don't forget 100% of the lamestream media, which reveres penis pictures above everything else, because it gets them ratings and is so much more palatable than actual journalism or thoughtful commentary.

What in Hell's name is all this 'holier than thou' BS floating on these comments? I'll bet that some of the posters here have done the same (or worse) than having 'phone sex' and sending pics of themselves! The FAKE morality being expressed here sounds like the Christian Right (which is usually NEITHER). According to the parents of the 17 yr old, they knew of the association, and monitored it. One batch of tweets (according to the parents) was about BASEBALL! OH! How immoral is that??? Bunch of nosy no-sex-havin'n-low lifes!

FYI...my private life is none of YOUR business, and neither is his!!

The Tweets in question between the student in question and the congressman were not salacious or in any manner inappropriate, said Daniel McElhatton, the attorney representing the girl's family. "No photographs were ever sent to her or from her."

This shouldn't change anything. I can't believe how weak Dems are. He should stay in office and let the voters decide in 2012

(Reuters) - The Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, on Saturday called on fellow Democratic Representative Anthony Weiner to resign after his admission last week that he had had improper Internet exchanges with several women and then lied about it.

"Congressman Weiner has the love of his family, the confidence of his constituents, and the recognition that he needs help," Pelosi said in a statement. "I urge Congressman Weiner to seek that help without the pressures of being a Member of Congress."

It's over.

“He should not resign. The cost and distraction of another New York special election over cyber sex and some pics of a man's genitals? If he runs again in 2012, then the voters can decide.

You will probably find out the Pelosi has been doing the same immoral things, or quite a deal similar. Barbra Walters is also one of those prissy know it all obama queens.
This is a typical case of Dems protecting even the lowest of snakes. Its their way. No moral compass, inability to see right from wrong, and the notion that they are above the law.

You are aware, I'm sure, that he list of congressmen involved in sex scandals is far longer than what's been listed. And that goes for members of both parties. The complete list has a near even split and numbers around 100 congressmen.

Rep. Nancy, please. Are you going to let Rep. Weiner drag the Democratic Party into a mire of sexual electronic indecency? Weiner's got issues; lying, cheating, and misleading the American people he represents. Why not call for his resignation from office? I know, because the Democrats are currently in the minority and need every member in the House. A resignation would shake the Democratic foundation. The Republicans fired Rep. Chris Lee for a photo with his shirt off. If Weiner does not resign, at least a censure would be in order for his behavior, if proven he used tax payers money to produce the photos. Rep. Weiner is an outspoken opponent of the Republicans. That is another reason to keep him in office. His passion has led himself astray and he needs to resign. Apparently the moral integrity and our economy are crumbling at the same time.

Thats it! I'm done with the Dems, forever. "drain the swamp?" What a joke. If anyone needs to be drained its Weiner and Pelosi is doing nothing.

Taking the lead on drainning the swamp has been passed on to Speaker of the House Boehner. Nancy has called for an investigation let's see what Boehner will do.

She sure has a weird way of "draining the swamp". I guess what she meant to say was that she was going to drain the "Republican swamp". Libs get a free pass. And yes, I know Vitter got one too, but Chris Lee sure didn't and he did far less than Weiner the Weasel.
