Is Leonardo DiCaprio Owed An Oscar?

Leonardo

The Hollywood Reporter:

It could finally be Leonardo DiCaprio's time. Every year, a consensus develops that at least one performer or filmmaker is "due." This year, that drumbeat could go to DiCaprio, who has a potentially plum part as J. Edgar Hoover in Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, which opens Dec. 14. He has been Oscar-nominated three times but hasn't won, and that could put him on the Academy's Most Wanted list.

I've avoided watching Dicaprio for years as I've long been tired of the "pretty boy" actors Hollywood puts up. But after watching him in The Aviator I was sold.

I saw Inception a couple months ago on dvd and am looking to watch Shutter Island next. I will watch J. Edgar. I might even think about going backwards further, although I think aging has treated him well in that he has lost the pretty boy looks in exchange for a more mature handsome appearance with some lines in face which makes him interesting to watch.

Plus, if the two films I mentioned are any clue he's is, or has become, a tremendous actor. Being a bit of a fan of Howard Hughes I believed Dicaprio in the role and thought The Aviator was cool

wow, for those that criticize him and his acting abilities you should probably go watch some of his movies (just a thought): this boys life, basketball diaries, whats eating gilbert grape, catch me if you can, romeo & juiliet, marvin's room, the aviator, gangs of new york, blood diamond (id like you to try to kick out an so. african accent like he did)the departed, shutter island etc.,...yes, he has a lot of the same reactions to things in the scenes, but he is human and he still has to keep a part of himself in the character or he'll prob. go insane:)he makes the movies good even if the writing or directing is bad..imo

If were talking about high profile actors who deserve Oscars I would put Pitt ahead of Di Caprio....See Assassanition of Jesse James, the fact that he wasnt even nominated for that is absurd

Pitt is nice to look at. The only reason i think he's continued to be big movies is bc he's become a better actor and the directors know his worth. I dont think he's a naturally good actor like dicaprio and some others..

One of the best actors of our time. He's the Errol Flynn of the decade. Unmistakeable quality craftsman at such a young age, he's a Master.

I go out of my way to watch anything he does. He's got his head screwed on right behind the scenes.

I don't care if the Academy ever give him one, he's one the best in the industry and we as a discening audience know it. If he's in it I'll buy it. Period. I can't say that about many actors today. He's a rarity.

Not entitled to one ... but will win one.

I must say that Leo turns in consistently good work.

Leo deserves an Oscar. I wanted him to win for The Aviator. I was so sad when he did not. I think that was the year 'Ray' was up where Jamie Fox won. Both were good movies.

Leo's one of my fave actors and he has definitely taken some parts that I thought he should have won for (personal favorite: his role in The Departed), but who would want to be "owed" an Oscar? I'm sure he'd prefer to wait until he's earned it. And someone made a good point on here: he's a bit too young for us to be talking about what he's owed.

Also, giving an Oscar to someone just because people think they should have one just cheapens the whole deal. But is this the idea of people being "owed" the reason why Julia Roberts got an Oscar? I saw Erin Brochovic, but must have missed something since I thought that movie was completely forgettable. She's likable and has been in some good movies--like Closer--but I don't think I've ever seen her give an Oscar-worthy performance.

He probably could care less whether he wins an oscar or not. He is a highly successful and respected actor, more than most. That is enough of a reward, I am sure.
