Jennifer Love Hewitt 'Law & Order: SVU' Casting No Longer Likely

Jennifer Love Hewitt

The evidence now indicates that Jennifer Love Hewitt won't be joining "Law & Order: SVU."

Hewitt, who was reportedly in the running to join the cast of the hit NBC police procedural, is no longer being considered as an option for a revamped cast, Deadline reports.

The former "Ghost Whisperer" star was rumored to be close to joining the show as a sort of replacement for current star Mariska Hargitay, who will be reducing her role come midseason as she moves to an administrative position in the Special Victims Unit.

Perhaps the show's producers got wind of the fact that Love Hewitt is the worst reviewed film actress since 1985.

The show still needs another new lead, as longtime star Christopher Meloni announced that he would not be returning to "SVU" next season. His contract expired after last season, and was unable to reach an agreement with NBC.

It was a loss Hargitay felt deeply.

"For the past 12 years Chris Meloni has been my partner and friend, both on screen and off. He inspired me every day with his integrity, his extraordinary talent and his commitment to the truth. I love him deeply and will miss him terribly - I'm so excited to see what he'll do next," Hargitay told TV Line in late May.

Meanwhile, Ice-T will be back for at least two more seasons, as he just signed a new contract to stay in his supporting role.

i really don't care whether she is a poorly-reviewed actress.  Ghost Whisperer was a much better show than the tripe playing now.

:( I wish both main characters weren't leaving the show.

They should bring on Reed Diamond as Mike Kellarman to replace Melonie. As for a replacement for Hargitay, I vote for Amy Brenneman.

I'm fed up with them using actors as guest stars, the three years later making them completely different characters like nobody is going to notice.

I think it is time to end SVU. It hasn't been the same for some time now. The writing is mediocre at best. With the loss of Meloni and Hargitay's role being reduced mid-season, the show is certainly not going to be the same. Better to go out in style than be cancelled because the show wore out its welcome and failed to appeal to viewers.

Not one word about Belz, who has had very few episodes lately. I don't know why he's not been around, but I hope he's back more next season, I adore him. Glad Ice-T is coming back. It's gonna be very difficult with Meloni gone and less Hargitay. Thankful they didn't bring on JLH.

after geting to see munch in homicide it's been largely disappointing to see him in a part that serves as nothing more than an on screen device to announce plot points.

The show won't be the same and I bet this will be the last season.

Ice-T and Belzer should be the leads of the show.

i'd like to think that the public outrage and outcry from loyal viewerson blogs like this one is what the producers got wind of. she would have never, ever fit in on that show. while i don't think is is a totally revolting actress, she certainly would not have been believable on svu - no question.

I was very upset when I heard they were considering her.

Nicola Walker? Hermione Norris? Kate Walsh? Audra McDonald?
Billy Burke? Ted King? Anthony Denison? Mandy Patinkin?

I'd watch.

I can't believe they were seriously considering casting her. It's no wonder so many actresses struggle to find good roles after 40. How can they when they're competing against younger one who can't even act?

What if the character is under 40?

Score one for the haters. They just might have torpedoed (or, at the very least, sidetracked) JLH's career.

I liked her in Ghost Whisperer, but I can't see her doing this. It will be interesting to see who gets the role.
