No Republican can flash a smile like this. That is why Obama will be very difficult to beat. If you want some background detail, get a book or CD version of "The Levity Effect--Why It Pays to Lighten Up."

Individuals fall all along the spectrum of enjoying humor and now it is becoming a subject of concern to employers and there is training about how useful it is for productivity.

The current state of awareness can be said to just seeing it as a natural aspect of personality. In other words, some of us like to be joking all the time and some are usually too serious about everything. As counselors and psychologists study the subject, they are learning that companies can benefit from training for managers so they understand the benefits of levity.

Eventually it will get into politics. Right now conservatives and progressives are also just acting naturally about being of good humor or being critical and pessimistic, without reflecting on its indirect effects.

Successful presidents like Reagan and Clinton had reputations of being humorous. Going back in time it seems that they used to be less light-hearted. Proactive levity seems to be in the future.

Republican candidates seem to be on the pessimistic side. Seems to go with their outlook on the future. Pawlenty scoffed at being entertaining as not in his interest.

There is a book that encourages them to be that way: "We are Doomed--Reclaiming Conservative Pessimism." Derbyshire, 2009.

Oh yeah, I thought it was hysterical when Obama figured out there were no shovel ready jobs after we spent billions. Then when we were told that unemployment would be at 9% for the foreseeable future, I just cracked up. Finally when we were told that Obama's misery index was the highest in 38 years, I thought I was going to bust a gut. This guy is too funny.

Obama needs the support ie financial contributions, of big banks and Wall Street, so he can continue to pummel the voters with the propaganda that he actually works for Main Street. The ultimate hypocrisy, and a sad statement of the current education level of the average voter, who will fall for more worthless spin and rhetoric. The best Govt WS can buy.

The entitlement for Wall Street which has obscene amounts of money to use some of that money to bribe government officials to allow them to accumulate even greater amounts of money is going to destroy the American middle class.

There goes main street. Oh wait, main street has been gone for almost four years now. It's no street now, just a dirt road full of ruts and dust. And Wall Street has become easy street.

not until you take back control of the economy (supply of money) from the bankers, will the politicians be responsive to those who elected them

As the saying goes, my party left me, I didn't leave the party. I do now. Besides being a political coward and a Republican Democrat, he is an ineffectual leader.
Where are the jobs!!!! A jobs bill and stimulus bill should have been in every President's speech from day one; instead, we get his acceptance of the conservative narrative that continues to dominate the Beltway.
I just wish he had a challenger for the primaries.
