Tim Profitt Gets Probation After Physical Scuffle During 2010 Election Season

Tim Profitt Probation

06/13/11 06:50 PM ET   AP

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A former campaign worker for U.S. Sen. Rand Paul has agreed to serve probation and pay medical expenses in an assault on a liberal activist during the 2010 election.

Assistant Fayette County Attorney Jackie Alexander says 53-year-old Tim Profitt agreed to an Alford plea on Monday. It means he acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict him in the assault but didn't admit guilt.

Video showed 23-year-old Lauren Valle being pulled down, her face pinned to the concrete and then stepped on. Valle was with the group MoveOn.org. It happened on Oct. 25 in Lexington outside the studio where the Republican Paul and Democrat Jack Conway debated.

Profitt will spend a year on unsupervised probation and agreed to pay $600 to cover Valle's medical bills.

Profitt's attorney Michael Dean confirmed the plea but had no further comment.

*unremorseful

I'm glad the whole thing was caught on video. Otherwise, there would have been absolutely no consequences for this man's assault of an innocent woman. Yes, the penalty was minimal, but the whole world knows what this unrepentant animal did. The worldwide public humiliation offsets the lack of justice being served in terms of criminal consequences. Timothy Profitt seems to be steadfastly remorseful, so perhaps the worst punishment he will endure if having to go through life being Timothy Profitt.

So, basically there's no penalty and no criminal history.

Seems the real story here is what, if anything, Senator Paul has said about this incident.

To be fair, Rand Paul fired the guy from his campaign and denounced his actions. I still didnt vote for him, it was just talked about more in kentucky. For obvious reason.

I am sure he would do it again if that is the only "punishment" he had to "suffer." That is a real travesty. If you or I did such a thing we would be looking at jail time. Wouldn't we?

But isn't covering your Wiener more newsworthy than a a paid politcal hack who stomps on someone's head? Why is this story buried?

A year of unsupervised probation for assaulting a woman half his size?

What's the penalty for throwing toddlers off a bridge? Milk and cookies?

I guess if I had been there, Mr. Profitt would have been in the hospital as well with a big welt on the back of his head from getting knocked out. :)

the guy is guilty, that is what a plea bargain is

Plea bargain.....: the negotiation of an agreement between a prosecutor and a defendant whereby the defendant is permitted to plead guilty to a reduced charge.

Notice it states pleads guilty to a reduced charge. The guy is guilty and admits it with the plea.

No, with an Alford Plea you are not required to admit guilt. An Alford Plea means that the defendant admits that the prosecutor most likely has enough evidence to convict, and accepts the penalty offered rather than going to trial. And Alford Plea allows the defendant to avoid admitting guilt, or even allows the defendant to still maintain their innocence.

Not all states allow Alford pleas, and some that do will allow the prosecutor to reject it and require an admission of guilt.

You forgot the first portion of that which states as follows

In an Alford Plea, the criminal defendant does not admit the act, but admits that the prosecution could likely prove the charge. The court will pronounce the defendant guilty.

Still guilty in the eyes of the court.

"I did it, but I don't want to admit I'm guilty." He got off easy. Next time, the judge will not be so lenient.

And, rest assured, their will be a next time. People like this always believe the rules do not apply to them. And, "sentences" like this confirm it for them.

Good ol' Kentucky! Where it's recommended to be a lunatic and a thug! The state that gave us Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell.

Mr. Profitt was fearful that the 95 lb. girl might threaten the 90 lb. Rand Paul, even though Mr. Paul was already inside a public building that Ms. Valle was also legally entitled to enter..  The fact that Mr. Paul required the services of a bunch of workbook wearing thugs for protection should indicate that he is more than qualified to replace Libya's Moamar Gaddafi, whose security detail is accused of having sexually molested a female Libyan lawyer.

It was a debate, so both sides were allowed there. It really is strange he hired such thugs for the event. Maybe Gaddafi loaned them out to Rand.

That's it? So I can stomp on someone's head and if there were no medical bills my punishment would be probabtion? I hope she sues him in civil court.
