rollcall.com:

Six months ago, before redistricting had even begun, Republicans were optimistic they would gain additional seats, or, as former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie put it, that they would  "gain or protect" 15 to 25 seats.

A huge demographic change is coming to purple and red states like Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, and Florida. The Census said that those states were growing. That might sound like good news to the GOP but it is not! Most of that growth is due to minorities such as Mexican Americans in Texas. And the GOP has done everything to alienate not only ethnic minorities, but also the middle and lower class where you'll find most minorities. 45% of Texas already votes Democratic. I tell ya. Give the state 5 more years and it will turn dark blue, simply because of demographics. Everything will change from that point.

The question is,
who will lose?
America,
because this is a dance and a charade.

I think Obama first lectured the GOP that "elections have consequences" "I won"

He sure was right......... 2010 will have consequences for a decade

Redistricting is a partisan joke. On both sides.

My district was redistricted and our Republican rep is in a little better shape than before. However, our Representative doesn't even live in this state! She lives in Florida with her husband yet she represents a Southern California district. The people that live in her district are none too happy with this situation so if the Dems come up with a decent candidate, she may lose next time. Who is she? Think Sonny Bono.

"Redistricting Could Help Democrats".....um ok. but in Texas, it trashes Travis County, divided into five districts.
Right...that will help.

Wow - Even when Republicans win they lose.

I would feel sorry for them...
If they weren't the WORST thing that this country has to offer.

I'm certain it's the GOP pushing for redistricting...they can only win by cheating.
05:23 PM on 06/14/2011
They already did this before, it is called gerrymandering. Tom Delay gerrymadered Texas to get rid of Democrats. The Republicans gerrymandered the south to make if a Republican stronghold.

For Once, just once, I would like to see the average citizen benefit from redistricting. You know that whole Representing the People thing. Rather than the usual party fighting.

What have we allowed our country to become?

You made a misstatement. "Our country." You cannot use the word "our" unless you are one of the Fortune 500 corporations. That is what this country has become. It is a plutocracy. Of for and by the greedy top 0.1%.

Your job is to be a good little consumer, ship off your your 18 year old younguns to serve as cannon fodder in unnecessary Bush Oil Wars, and then do your Patriotic duty and die young to avoid getting any Medicare or Social Security money. That is all "citizens" are good for in the New Improved Corporate States of America.

Now quit whining on a blog and go shopping. There is a mall down the street.

Most of the population growth in the south is due to minorities. The largest red states (Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Florida and Louisiana etc.) will turn purple, then blue over the next few decades. Not to mention that Congress has always had a Democratic majority.

Considering the desperation of the crackers in those states, they must see it happening too. That may be why they are trying to push their radical agenda through in so many states they won last election. Given the opportunity, they will marginalize any minority they can.

The bigger issue is the continued shift in congressional seats from the reliably Democratic states, with Democratic legislatures, to Republican and swing states. Off the top of my head: Texas +2, FLorida +2, Nevada +1, South Carolina +1, etc and NY -2, Illinois -1, Mass -1, NJ -1.
