WASHINGTON — House Democratic leaders are planning to meet Thursday to consider the next step in handling the scandal embroiling Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Weiner is resisting calls to resign. He has acknowledged sending sexually explicit messages and suggestive photos of himself to various women and then lying about it. The New York congressman has taken a two-week leave from the House and is reported to be in treatment at an undisclosed location.

A House aide described the leadership meeting set for Thursday on condition of anonymity because officials had not authorized a public discussion of their plans.

House Democratic leaders could decide to strip Weiner of his committee assignments and could take other actions to punish him.

The Republicans are trying to strip women of their basic rights to their own body but Pelosi and company are having meetings on this b.s. Well I hope they're happy now..they caved and while the rest of the Republicans continue to rally around Vitter the Democrats bailed on their colleague. Not another dime of my money will go to support them..

Expect the Weiner to resign tomorrow (Friday) after 2 pm. The old tactic of letting the news die into the weekend and get lost.

Since the Weiner name alone brings out all the jokes, maybe "the package" should just legally change his name to "UPS".

After Gen. Lee suffered the great defeat at Gettysburg, based on his stategy to invade a northern state. The moment he returned to the south, he took full responsibility for the defeat and tendered his resignation to President Davis. Whether you agree with Gen. Lee's moral desisions, he is known for his character.

Today when you look at our political leaders, it seems that their primary motivation above everything else is self-promotion and self-preservation. Though they (the modern politician) have been given a huge privilege to serve the people, by the people, they somehow are able to translate that into something that they deserve. I believe that they are able to do this because they think to highly of themselves and they do not esteem others more highly than themselves. Humility is not a character trait that they want to get anywhere near. This selfishness is rampant now across the entire political spectrum.

Now, Weiner action dolls are being sold on the Internet. The comedians are having a field day with this guy. Yesterday, a porn star (that he was tweeting) came forward with Gloria Allred. Good or bad, no one takes him seriously anymore.

If only the feckless Dems were as relentless about investigating the Bush war crimes as they are about this nonsense!

Weiner is a more effective Rep on his worst day than these corporate lackies are on their best. If most of Weiners constituents want him to represent them, then who the HELL are these impotent idiots to push him out!? I am DONE with the Republican-lite Democorporate Party... Not one more dime- not one more phone call- not one more day spent knocking on doors for candidates who are wasting time on attacking one of the most aggressive defenders of the working people of this nation when they should be standing with him to fight to restore the working class to its post New Deal vibrancy.

I'll focus my energies on movement politics... like Progressives United...because clearly, the Democratic Party is too focued on someone's weewee to actually work for the people.

Quit picking on your own!!! my god. If you can focus this much attention on something that's internally not your business it would seem you could use this same energy to fight something real on the other side. Like white supremacists running for President or the huge theft of taxpayers funds that's been committed or the lack of jobs in mainstream America or our dependence on Wall St for our daily bread..... GET A GRIP! unreal you're caucusing on whether Mr. Weiner (an elected official) is in trouble with his wife and constituency. Leave him alone! get back to work................

Has Weiner been cured yet? Will we get to see the tweeter hump again? The love man wants to know.

That's not a bad idea. If he won't resign, then take away all rights and privileges and just make him a Congressman with absolutely no power to do anything other than pull the lever and vote on issues that come before Congress. If his constituents want a Congressman who has zero chance of bringing back five cents to his district, or MSNBC wants to be even more of a joke and have him on, then that's their decision.

Committee assignments are based on seniority;
If they strip him of assignments - that would mean a shift to (the horror) Merit-based committee assignments.
in other words - they should apply the new merit-standard to everyone.
Who deserves the assignments most, and by what metric?

If the Senator with the wide girth was able to stay and serve his term, so should the congressman who showed he was the real Weiner. One R and one D, even Steven. Enough with this already. Too many really important things to discuss.

What a weiner, this guy needs to go. Left, what the matter can't keep your groupie in line? Tick tick tick, 2012 coming, you had better get this guy out, he's not only sick, if you let him stay, that will show how sick the left is. Tick tick tick, coming soon 2012 and the new America.
