"That Bin Laden was living comfortably in Pakistan for years has evinced little outrage here among a population that has consistently told pollsters it is more sympathetic to Al Qaeda than to the United States."

"During a long session in late May at the National Defense University, the premier academy in Islamabad, the capital, one officer got up after General Kayani’s address and challenged his policy of cooperation with the United States. The officer asked, “If they don’t trust us, how can we trust them?” according to Shaukaut Qadri, a retired army brigadier who was briefed on the session. General Kayani essentially responded, “We can’t...”

Pakistan is playing a very duplicitous game. Terrorists are a useful foreign policy tool for them in their dealings with India, Afghanistan, and the US. And they are definitely moving closer to China.

Moving closer to China?

They have very close, cordial relations with China already.
Pakistan has better relations with China than the U.S. has with Mexico or Canada.

Well, he should be very grateful that he even still has his job and at least has a shot at keeping it, even though he may have to fight tooth and nail, and elbow the other young officers to do so, but, then again, 20+ millions of my fellow Americans are without any, many for more than 2 years.

So, I gotta ask... why on God's green earth should I care whether a fat cat, probably corrupt general in Pakistan loses his job or not? He probably has even reached and passed the age of retirement and should do so to create the opportunity for younger officers to have a shot at getting the top job.

Honestly. America has landed thousands of soldiers around them. Killed high numbers of civilians. Caused a ramp up in terrorist attacks against the Pakistani govt. Made the Pak govt look like stooges to their people.

If another country came to America and did all that, would our military people meekly resign to the situation?

If it took another country to take out all the militias in Montana (who were attacking the US also) with only relatively small number of civilian casualties...I'm all for it.

Not the same. If we had harbored and trained terrosists for years that went into Pak and killed civilians, I would feel that they were justified coming into our country and retaliating. That is how every major war in the world began

Looks like the fans of OBL in the upper-ranks of Pakistan's military are coming out of the woodwork. Our aid to them would probably be better spent on India if at all.

"That Bin Laden was living comfortably in Pakistan for years has evinced little outrage here among a population"

Why do we expect these people to help us fight Al Qaeda/Taliban?

Are these the same Top Generals that have been taking our tax payer dollars? if so put them on the Seals List of Things to Do.

Pakistan is not our ally. They never truly have been, yet we dole out money to them called "aid" which is nothing more than a payoff to keep them between us and others.

The anger at the Americans was now making it more difficult for General Kayani to motivate the army to fight against the Pakistani Taliban in what is increasingly seen as a fight on behalf of the United States, former Pakistani soldiers said.

“The feeling that they are fighting America’s war against their own people has a negative impact on the fighting efficiency,” said Javed Hussain, a former special forces officer in the Pakistani military.

Against there own people. You could not of put it better. So whom should we support? All or none. Let them duke it out, or as Bush put it. "Were going to smoke them out".
We should of never sent troops to the mid east. only hit squads and special forces.
Start at the top and work down. Not the bottom and work up.

It might not even be a bad idea to figure out why these people are so pissed at you in the first place.
