Clint Dempsey, US Soccer Midfielder, Misses Easy Goal Against Guadeloupe (VIDEO)

US Soccer Star Misses Golden Opportunity In Gold Cup

By all accounts, Clint Dempsey is one of the best players on the U.S. Soccer team. He's a hard-working goal-scorer who has found high levels of success for both the national team and for his English Premier League club, Fulham.

Given the high standard of play Dempsey and his fans have grown accustomed to, then, his performance in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Guadeloupe in the Gold Cup will not go down as one of his finer performances. In fact, it could go down as one of his worst ever.

On the night, Dempsey had a decent outing from every perspective except for his finishing. But that was dreadful. Dempsey missed a couple of easy headers and was off the mark with a number of shots, but his worst miss of the night came in 77th minute when he found himself alone with the ball no more than two or three yards from the net.

Watch the video below to see how Dempsey missed what looked to be an absolute sitter. (The miss didn't cost the U.S. the match, however, and they will advance to play Jamaica in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup).
