Weiner Doll

First there was the Anthony Weiner scandal, now there's the Weiner doll.

The anatomically correct action figure is already the most popular item sold on HeroBuilders.com The doll comes complete with “Tweet This” embroidered on the embattled congressman's boxers.

There are two versions of the doll for sale. The "standard" action figure costs $39.99, but if you want the anatomically accurate "adults only" version, it costs an extra $10, per The Los Angeles Times.

You can also get a toy Blackberry for $18.

Weiner admitted to having online relationships with six women. He also said he sent the photo of his bulging underpants that set off the controversy.

He recently announced he would take a leave of absence as calls for his resignation continue to mount.

This shows the power of "Weiner-gate" as a political weapon. When a scandal can be so easily communicated, it can be dropped into a political narrative at any time.

I feel sorry for Anthony, and I will miss his voice, but... it's just business.

To compare this story with Clinton, or Vitter is "apples and oranges."

Any man or woman can forgive and find "normal" an adulterous affair, especially when the marriage is strained to begin with. It fits a story line that is ANCIENT. It is sordid. But, it is KNOWN.

But, a newly married guy spending an inordinate about of time taking pictures of himself, and using them to lure women of unknown ages and occupations into sexual conversations, littering the Twitter-sphere with a virtual STORYBOARD of recklessness... IS COMPLETELY NEW, and without parallel.

We live in the AGE of INFOTAINMENT NEWS. Any producer who neglected to run a "Weiner-gate' update at the top of the page should expect to be prosecuted for malpractice. Maybe in the beginning of the Clinton era, we could luxuriate in the notion that journalists had "standards", but that was then...
