John McGee, a four-term Republican state senator from Idaho, was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of grand theft and for driving under the influence.

KTVB-TV first reported McGee's arrest:

According to Sgt. Carlos De Leon with the Ada County Sheriff, McGee began drinking at a Boise golf course at about 10 p.m. Saturday. McGee left the clubhouse just before 3 a.m. and came upon a Ford Excursion with the keys inside and a 20-foot travel trailer attached in the area near the Muir Woods Subdivision in southwest Boise. McGee drove off in the vehicle, which had the keys inside.

McGee tried to turn the vehicle and trailer around in a long driveway on Knapp Place near Victory Road. The Excursion and travel trailer ended up jack-knifed in the driveway.

According to IdahoStatesman.com, the senator then exited the Excursion and walked up and down the street several times only to get back in the SUV and fall asleep. Two kids who were in the house where the Excursion got stuck called the police.

McGee, whose blood alcohol level was .15, allegedly told authorities he was on his way to Jackpot, Nev., a city about 180 miles southeast of Boise that's known for gaming.

McGee, 38, represents District 10, an area of approximately 50,000 people in Southwest Idaho. He is the Idaho Senate GOP Caucus Chairman.

According to the senator's website, he is also the chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and was the 2006 Idaho State Republican Legislator of the Year. Additionally, he is chairman of the Regional Substance Abuse Authority Legislative Committee.

McGee's arraignment is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

This "good Old boy" is just having a little fun, he didn't mean no harm. I am sure the good folks of Idaho will understand! This behavior just shows his good Republican and Christian values. If he had killed anybody I am sure he would have been very sorry.

He may have walked as far as 6 miles and somehow lost his shoes along the way. There is conjecture that he may have been looking for his parents' house. Although the police apparently didn't suspect any other drug than alcohol was involved. No drug testing was done. Witnesses have said he appeared to have been under the influence of a drug other than alcohol??

"I'm going gambling in Treasure Nevada officers!" , he reportedly said. "I'm going to the promised land!" To the wife of the man who's backyard he ended up in- who appeared in the window in a white robe- "Oh look- an Angel!" LOL! His lawyer says he had no intention of stealing the car. I mean he only went a couple of blocks before crashing it. He was just testing the steering mechanism!!! C'mon Judge!! I hold before you exhibit A of the Family Values coalition in action.

(90% of all media is Republican owned).

We're always so concerned about our what we are leaving our children and grandchildren. For the first time, my God, cant we get this right. If there was outrage shown torwards Anthony Weiner's action, then there should be equal outrage by this senator's behavior. We must leave, on record, for our children and grandchildren that Americans don't stand behind this type of behavior regardless of which party.
This man should resign...now.

Please put this back on the front page where it belongs. I'm dying to see the outrage from both sides of the bench. Was he fully clothed, is that why no one is calling for his resignation?

where's the outrage?! This senator was arrested for grand theft auto and drunk driving and he's barely a blip on the news radar. He could have killed someone. Your thoughts, Mr. Boehner?

Should he resign? Sure! All of those who are in positions of responsibility should act responsible. It's funny though this comes up right after Weiner. The left now has someone to deflect Weiner's irresponsible behavior. Of course it's a state legislator no one has ever heard of.

Why would it make any difference if the officer was "hispanic". Look at phonies who bring race into this issue.

Theft of property worth less than $1000 is considered to be a misdemeanor by the State of Idaho. Theft of property worth more than $1000 is considered to be a felony. Felony theft charges are much more serious than misdemeanors, because a felony conviction usually carries a sentence of at least one year in prison.

Time for John McGee, to resign you can't do much for the state when your behind bars for grand theft auto plus DUI, I’m glad he didn’t end up killing anybody.

John Boehner, your up time for you to tell him to resign.

And yes he did much worse than Anthony Weiner ever did.
