Wang Gongquan, Billionaire Investor, Uses Social Media To Announce He's Leaving Wife For Mistress

First Posted: 06/19/11 08:21 PM ET Updated: 08/19/11 06:12 AM ET

Billionaire investor Wang Gongquan recently announced to the world that he was leaving his wife to elope with his mistress -- and he did it on a Chinese microblogging site like Twitter, called Sina Weibo.

"I am giving up everything and eloping with Wang Qin," he wrote, according to the Wall Street Journal. "I feel ashamed and so am leaving without saying goodbye. I kneel down and beg forgiveness!"

WSJ added:

Mr. Wang's May 16 confession went viral. The 49-year-old's post was re-published by other users about 60,000 times within 24 hours. Other bigwigs felt compelled to weigh in. "Please get in touch with me as soon as possible!" Mr. Wang's friend, Pan Shiyi, the billionaire chairman of Soho China Ltd., one of Beijing's biggest real-estate developers, wrote to him on Weibo. "Your family is incredibly anxious...Please contact them."

Following the revelation, Wang continued to post emotional messages on his Sina Weibo account, then followed up by linking to a video where he stands in front of the water and sings about his personal drama (lyrics via NY Mag):

Always facing the whispers of the wind with a heart longing for love/
I loathe nothing more than laboring for profane achievements/
Who has ever seen mountains of gold and silver/
last through 10,000 generations?/
Throughout the ages,/
the only precious thing is this feeling.

Business Insider notes this "isn't the first time that a Chinese financier has caused a huge furor on a Twitter-like site."

Earlier this year, in an extremely explicit online tirade, DangDang CEO Li Guoqing (DangDang is like Amazon in China) let the world know how he felt about Morgan Stanley after it priced his company for a 50% pop on the day of its IPO.

Li descibed Morgan Stanley bankers as "little rats" and says "let me **** all of you up after this drama is over."

After seeing a photo of this little squirt, I doubt if his wife is heartbroken. She'll get millions and Mr.. Wang's wong will be bored in a few months. On to someone younger and cuter??

If those mountains of gold and silver are so inconvenient, he can ship one or two of them to Haiti to buy food and shelter for a few thousand people. I could suggest Japan, too, but especially if he's from the Nanking area he might not like to.

I love stories like this. The power of love triumphed over money and everything else. Money and material things cannot nurture the need for love. Gongquan chose happiness and love over money, power, and the shame it brings him in his culture. Congratulations Gongquan, and may you have many happy years with your new wife. We cannot take anything material when we leave our earth and time on our earth. On our death beds the ones we have loved and ones we love will be all that matters. Bless you in your new happiness.

Wont hurt him financially at all to give up half if thats the law in China. That other woman must be some kinda special anytime hes singing in a video. Goes to show that even with all that money you still have to be validated with love. Maybe the other woman loves him maybe not.
