13 Places Google Doesn't Want You To See

Racetrack
For some reason, the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Salinas, California, is heavily whited out on Google Earth even though it's just a racetrack and no threat to national security.

TruTV.com:

Google Earth is a great tool for seeing where you're going on vacation or where you've been on vacation.

But there are some spots that, inexplicably don't show up on the site, like parts of the Pacific Northwest and a racetrack in Salinas, California.

What gives?

The Laguna Seca complaint is totally bogus. The track is fully visible in Google Earth, including the infamous Corkscrew. There are large areas that appear white, but this area is desert, after all.

The track is on the grounds of what was formally Fort Ord U.S. Army post. There may be military buildings that have been razed - possibly these have fooled the observer.

Images of my house are old. I put in my relatives address and it doesn't go to the right spot.
Interestingly 'Area 51' is not blurred/pixilated, perhaps it's an old image, I've heard they've relocated most of the 'mysterious projects' to somewhere in Utah.

I don't want to feed your conspiratorial mojos, but do you know what you don't know? The subtlest security is showing a plausible alternative structure on google earth. Don't believe everything you see on the internet, jihadi dudes of all faiths.

The Netherlands armed forces are the easiest to spot with their hexagonal-camouflaged sites. Whoever knew about the explosives research facility in Noordwijk until the pixel fairies spread their magic?

The site by Mist, Oregon, I don't know what's there. I've ridden my horse in that area extensively and I gotta tell ya, there's an odd vibe. When I'm knocking around the forest in that area I always feel if someone were to appear from nowhere, "materialize" in front of me, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not a conspiracy fanatic either. I don't feel frightened (I wouldn't go out there if I did) and I've never encountered anyone when I'm there. This is the first I've heard (I just verified on Google maps) that the area is blacked out. Now I'm curious and thinking of heading out there in the next few and camping out (the thought of being out there at night does give me the "heebie jeebies") to see if anything happens or if I can hear or see anything. It's not the most accessible of areas and those are fire roads running around it. I'll get back on this.

Well, we're loading up now. Wish there was a way to attach photos to this. Lucky, lucky it's a sunny day and kinda warm. I and two others are going to camp out and see what happens. Maybe nothing will happen, anti climactic but safe lol. It will take about an hour and a half to drive from my place to our launching off point. We will take some time to reconnoiter the area attempting to locate anything. If we feel odd vibes or the horses or dogs act odd I'll report on it. I've got the feeling this will be a bust but it doesn't (usually) hurt to be curious. I think the worse that will happen is someone will show up to kick us out. Being kicked out would be interesting too.

We're off. I've got a feeling the blacked out area on Google is just someone's home and property as folks are IMO private and suspicious of the government out here. I have my iPhone to post from but I don't know if I will be able to connect (AT&T), we'll see. Mist is a beautiful area. The clouds drop down onto the mountain tops (hence the name Mist) and it's green, just a fabulous area.

It's my understanding that anyone with cause can request that Google (or many other public sites that display satellite imagery) remove their personal information. It's not that "Google doesn't want you to see X," it's more that that individual, government, or organization doesn't want you to see their information in graphic form. Interesting line between what's public and private.

I've seen similar areas pixelated and many are military and energy depots near populated areas. I think it is fair to suppose they are national security requests. (Dick Cheney for instance is reported to have insisted his house be obscured.) The first area listed though (Inuit) looks more like a failure to stitch together the mosaic of satellite photos. It's all not much of a big deal as far as I am concerned.
