Foursquare Spills New Stats

Foursquare has reached a new milestone: according to a post on the company's blog, the location based social networking service now has 10 million users.

Foursquare, which enables users to check in to locations, earn "badges" and collect rewards for loyal patronage of certain establishments, was launched in 2007 in New York City.

The company unveiled an infographic highlighting the growth of the social networking service over the past several years and shared additional statistics on where and how people have been using the service.

Among the key stats released:

-- The most popular apparel chains in the U.S., according to the number of check ins on Foursquare, are: Old Navy, H&M, and Victoria's Secret

-- The most popular retail chains in the U.S. are: Target, Walmart, and Macy;s

-- The most popular convenience stores in the U.S. are: 7-Eleven, Circle K, and Wawa -- There have been 358 million check ins outside the U.S.

-- There have been 1,061 births announced via hospital check-ins on Foursquare
