Hosni Mubarak Cancer

CAIRO, June 20 (Reuters) - Egypt's former President Hosni Mubarak is suffering from cancer, his defence lawyer said on Monday, citing a medical report to assess whether the former leader is fit enough to stand trial.

"Mubarak has cancer and this was included in the last medical report," said lawyer Farid el-Deeb.

Mubarak was hospitalised in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh after reportedly suffering heart problems during initial questioning. He is due to stand trial on Aug. 3 for the killing of protesters and abuse of power. (Reporting by Yasmine Saleh; Editing by Jon Boyle)

I think he should be shown as much compassion as he showed to the people of Egypt....get what you give...works for me. The sooner the better...be gone with ya.

First... I'd like to see a little more evidence than from his lawyer.

Secondly... is this "cancer" supposed to be newly found?   Or is the same cancer that he seemed to deal with just fine while nearly destroying Eygpt?

OH DARN!!...Now he developed "cancer" so I guess he can't be prosecuted for looting Egypt...we wouldn't want to appear to be taking advantage of a deathly sick old man...

Yeah, so does nearly everybody in the U.S. Boo-hoo. Does having cancer excuse you from responsible leadership? "Oh I have cancer, so I can be a dictatorial tyrant if I feel like it, so NAH."

fred: it is called karma. You are right, and I agree it does not wipe out his disgusting rule over his people. However, do not think that the uprising was spontaneous. All of these protests have been planned.

He has had people killed with other lethal illnesses, no excuse for canceling trial.

Let's see now! After the Shah of Iran was overthrown, he coveniently died of cancer. This could be a very convenient way to dispose of former arab dictators who were the USA's friends (NIXON Era A list guests at the White House) and were overthrown in popular uprisings. There would be no need to find them asylum in other arab totalitarian states. Why didn't Idi Amin of Uganda get cancer? Maybe it was his diet of human flesh (they found frozen human body parts in his former Presidential Palace) that kept him healthy!

He should be sent to a hospital in Gaza to see how he fares under the embargo he enforced.

No chance for this guy to "get well" ....he's already in a coma, he's got cancer of the espohagus, stomach and pancreas and who knows where else it is spreading to. He made his graceful exit out of the country for fear of ending up like Mussolini and his lady back in the 40's. Egypt...you are now the proud benefactors of 70 billion dollars courtesy of your not so nice, Mubarak.

It is amazing: Mubarak was a dictator and you libs want his neck. I don't disagree. However, he kept an agreement of peace for over 30 years. Now with you guys, that doesn't mean anything. After this is all said and done, and money is given to Egypt, do you actually think those people are going to be better off????? I don't think so, and that is the bad thing.

Keeping a peace agreement for a long time is fine, but killing off your own people and robbing them blind sort of cancels out the other good stuff. The cancer, if it's true, is probably just the evil manifesting itself in physical form.

Is a trial really necessary or could we do as he did simply allocate and execute the appropriate punishment

Here's the thing:

If a country summarily executes it's deposed leader without a public trial and without presenting in a court of law evidence that the charges against him are true, then the court system and the government are as corrupt as the dictator himself.

Give the man a fair trial. Uphold the rule of law.
