Huffpo's headline and picture are horrifically misleading.  This article is not about the snake oil (acupuncture, homeopathy, etc.) that is typically classified as "alt medicine".  It's about the importance of lifestyle choice in preventing disease.

Just another HuffPO headline failure.

Alt medicine is gaining traction even in medical schools because it uses mainstream ideas like lfestyle change and diet to advance its magic based treatments. It is understandable that hype based media like Oprah and HP would jump on the bandwagon but now we have Time Magazine and The Atlantic falling for it as well. Between the GOP and the tonic hucksters the future of medicine is looking bleak.

Great article. I have been researching treatments for prostate cancer and I've found that there is ample research about surgery techniques (AMA med school taught only) and chemo-therapy (big pharma products) and little scientifically documented research on alternatives.

Many of those who have proposed alternatives have been persecuted or run out of the U.S. to practice elsewhere. Some are probably frauds and some are no-doubt promoting non-patent, less expensive competitive solutions to pharma/AMA solutions.

Just like with energy, there must be a role for government by the people/for the people or big corporations will dictate everything. Of course, if the corporations control the government, then the only alternatives are found by rare individuals, like Dr. Ornish, or underground or somewhere else.
