Anthony Bourdain's 'No Reservations' Hot Dog Tour

First Posted: 06/22/11 10:07 AM ET Updated: 09/16/11 04:34 PM ET

It will be easy to reinvent your hot dog recipe this summer after you watch the below compilation of hot dog joints that Anthony Bourdain has visited over the years on No Reservations.

His first stop is Fat Johnnie's in Chicago where he samples a tamale topped with chili and served in a bun titled Mother-In-Law. "Mother-in-laws aren't easy to handle and this one is no exception...It's called the mother-in-law because it is supposed to give you indigestion, the way only a mother-in-law can."

Next, Bourdain is in Vancouver and chowing down at Japa Dog, where the hot dogs are topped with Japanese ingredients such as nori, daikon, teriyaki sauce and wasabi mayonnaise.

In Iceland, Bourdain's hot dog has multiple condiments. In addition to ketchup and mustard, his dog also contains curry sauce and remoulade.

The last stop on Bourdain's hot dog tour is in Sweden, in which the hot dog has both mashed potatoes and shrimp salad. In fact, there are so many add-ons to the hot dog that a fork is definitely required.

Watch this compilation below.

Chicago is the Hot Dog capitol of the world, New York is next. Everyone else does not have a clue. Same goes for pizza. Fat Johnnies is just one of the many amazing hot dog stands in Chicago.

You are right. He is no Rachael Ray or Paula Deen or Giada Delaurentiis or Anne Burrell or Emeril Lagasse or any of the other 'star' misfits that comprise the Food Network's stable of over exposed, over used, culinary 'performers'. Anthony Bourdain may have his excentricities, but I would watch a thousand of his shows before I watch a single fake, staged 'performance' of any of these irritating, retreads. Food Network, PLEASE ditch these unrelenting repeats and GET SOME NEW TALENT!!!

The best "hot dog" I ever had was a weisswurst at the Nuremburg christmas market. Not only do the Germans do "wurst" right, they have amazing mustard available at their "fast-food" schnell imbisses. The best American dog: Chicago's Bono viena beef hot dog with the works. Sorry New York.

Bourdain is an enormous prick, and an even more enormous talent. Love to hate him, hate to love him. To paraphrase Ol' Blue Eye: "With all his faults, I love him still."

Man, I hope that Captain Cocaine, had the common sense to go to Rutt's Hut in Clifton New Jersey.
12:47 PM on 06/23/2011
The best! Besides Rutt's, he should spend most of his time in North Jersey, the 'Hot Texas Wiener' capital of the world. Libby's, Johnny & Hanges, The Hot Grill, Pappy's, Falls View - each with their own chili sauce recipes.

Apparently you've never seen his ode to Northern NJ and NYC where he downed some rippers. Look it up-
btw, a ripper "all the way" (with sauce from the hot grill) is heaven.

Who would like to see Adam Carolla host a travel show? One about pop culture (Japanese game shows, Colombian beauty pageants, lucha libre in Mexico, etc) where he interviews people and muses about the culture and his experience. What do you think?

Anthony Bourdain, hysterical as always. You just need to concentrate on the adjectives he uses to parse his true meaning: gut busting, suicidal, mother-in-law, monstrosity, and just wrong. Choose better foods to celebrate summer.

I can't believe he didn't have a galette-saucisse in the episode featuring Bretagne. I wonder if it's because it's more of a pork sausage as opposed to a hot dog.

My favorite veggie dog is a certified organic carrot, marinated overnight in sunflower or seseme oil with lemon juice, a splash of soy souce, and minced chives, then briefly grilled "Al dente" over mesquite or cherry wood; then wrapped in a grilled eggplant slice (lengthwise) with pickled cabbage and a bit of fresh shredded horse raddish. Yum, yum. Chomp, chomp.

I know everyone has their own taste, and I respect that, but I have to say...

Even thinking about that made my stomach go into open revolt...
