Herman Cain: Jon Stewart Mocked Me Because I'm A 'Black Conservative' (VIDEO)

Herman Cain Jon Stewart

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain alleged that Comedy Central's Jon Stewart mocked him during a recent episode of the "The Daily Show" because he's a "black conservative."

ThinkProgress reports that Cain, former CEO of Godfather's pizza, leveled the charge while speaking during a stop in the key early primary state of Iowa. The remarks from the White House hopeful were made in response to what Stewart had to say about his suggestion that he'd only sign bills no longer than three pages if elected president.

HuffPost's Jason Linkins recently reported on the indication:

Of course, one of the things that Cain says he supports is the enactment of the Fair Tax. But now, he'll be unable to sign it into law, because that piece of legislation is 131-pages long.

Stewart joked on his show that Cain "offers real solutions to fictional issues." After playing a clip of Cain putting his foot down on the issue of the length of bills, the Comedy Central host impersonated Cain and said, "Bills will be three pages. If I'm president, treaties will have to fit on the back of a cereal box. From now on, the State of the Union address will be delivered in the form of a fortune cookie. I am Herman Cain and I do not like to read."

At the Iowa Falls Fire Department on Wednesday, Cain responded to the comedic segment.

"I’m serious about a bill only being three pages the joke’s on him," said the GOP contender. "And I said secondly, as far as him mocking me, look I’ve been called every name in the book because I’m a conservative, because I’m black."

After suggesting that he would not allow words like Stewart's to hurt him, Cain suggested that because "he's an American Black Conservative, an A-B-C" he's been labeled "Uncle Tom," a "sell out," an "Oreo" and "shameless." For that reason, he said that he "does not care" about what Stewart had to say.

During a recent interview with Bloomberg View columnist Jeffrey Goldberg, Cain stressed that he doesn't like "people trying to label" him.

"I am an American. Black. Conservative," he said. "I don’t use African American, because I’m American, I’m black and I’m conservative. I don’t like people trying to label me. African American is socially acceptable for some people, but I am not some people."

Via ThinkProgress comes video of what Cain had to say in Iowa on Wednesday.

I am with Herman on the African American thing. He is an American. David Wu is an American. Elliot Gonzalez is an American. All this latino american african american asian american stuff is ridiculous.

On the Stewart thing ,he sure does spend a lot time talking about something he does not care about.

He does know his audience though, they love them a good persecution complex.

I cannot even conceive of the political fallout that would occur if a conservative commentator or "comedian" mocked a candidate Barack Obama by saying,

"My name is Barack Obama and I hate to read!"

The accusations of racism would be constant. They would be intense and merciless. What allows that double standard? How can such a double standard be allowed to exist? The answer is an inept and wasted liberal media that is dishonest and fails to report the truth. Liberals are dishonest and worthless.

I don't agree with Herman Cain politically, but if you flipped this situation around and Rush Limbaugh said a black candidate for president didn't like to read (even as a joke) I'm sure he'd be strongly (and rightfully) attacked by the left and even by some conservatives. Liberals have sometimes been given a pass when it comes to attacking black conservatives; implying (and sometimes outright stating) that they are stupid, lazy, corrupt and/or the puppet of some white person ( i.e. doesn't have or express his or her own opinions).

Cain quotes his grandfather, "I does not care." And then repeats it, "I does not care." Does Cain think his point was made stronger by using poor grammar?

Promising legislation short enough to fit on a pizza menu invites ridicule. It sounds like a plank from the Rhinoceros Party of Canada - who made a promise to increase higher education by building taller schools.

Mr. Cain...."black" is no longer a skin color in America, it is a political agenda. You are not "black" if you think people should work for what they have.

(To be clear, there are obviously millions of Americans of African ancestory who work ever bit as hard as anyone else. But the fact is, you are no longer considered black (politically).)

I saw a "debate" between a Yale graduate of African ancestory and Rev. Sharpton. The graduate said he was thankful to America and he admitted that he was actually given preferential treatment because he had black skin. He continued that he was from a loving home and that his mother AND father taught him to always give his very best.

Rev. Al turned to the camera and said, "this man has been subjected to so much discrimination that he doesn't even know that he has been discriminated against."

"Black" now means that you adhere to the Democratic trappings that were labelled the "Great Society." It was an evil, sinister attempt to enslave minorities to the free handouts of the Democratic party. It encouraged fractionate families and it killed work ethic.

And now that the cupboard is bare, those people are going to suffer enormous withdrawl pains.

Herman Cain has been playing the racial victim card for years here on Atlanta radio, so this doesn't surprise me at all. As for the 3-page thing, he's often proposed the obviously simplistic, and I've rarely heard any new/original thoughts from him. And the truth IS that his voice is very grating - not so much black Southern as someone else here said (hell, Morgan Freeman has a beautiful Southern voice), but very twangy country. If anything, Jon didn't do the horrible voice/accent justice!

There's one thing, to be a conservative person. That works, in both parties (Democrat & Republican). There's another thing to be a Black Conservative Republican. And, to think that you are "really" welcomed, under the Big Tent, of Republican Conservatives, by the White, Ultra-conservatives. But, fear not, good people. Mr. Cain, will have his enlightenment moment (see; Colin Powell, Michael Steele, to name a few), in the not-to-distant future.

Why can't a white conservative comedian make fun of a liberal black public figure without being labeled racist?

Dennis Miller does it all the time. Do prominent, mainstream people call him a racist? No, because he makes it about Obama and not race. However, there is a line that some people can't resist crossing.
