Joe Biden: Debt Ceiling Talks Now Up To Obama, Congressional Leaders

Joe Biden Debt Ceiling Talks

06/23/11 07:44 PM ET   AP

WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden says bipartisan budget talks have made headway but that the next step is up to President Barack Obama and top congressional leaders.

Biden issued a statement Thursday declaring the talks in a state of "abeyance" after Republican negotiators abandoned the talks in a dispute with Democrats over higher taxes.

Biden said the goal of the talks was, in his word, "to report our findings back to our respective leaders."

He said those leaders need to determine the scope of an agreement that can tackle the problem and attract bipartisan support.

Democrats and Obama have insisted on reducing long-term deficits by cutting spending and increasing tax revenue. Republicans have said tax hikes will not be part of the negotiations.

Cantor and Kyl are babies - they walk out of talks when they can't get their own way? Well, good riddance to them.

Most of America wants fairness in taxes - and if they don't like that - well tough. We just want the rich and corporations to pay more and the poor and middle class to pay less of the burden? Why is that so hard for them to understand?

The GOP are in real trouble here and this move shows it.They have tried to force idiotic Medicare cuts on the Dems to cover their stupid behind on the Ryan plan, they know they cant cut spending because it will slow the economy by 1 to 2 % which equates to 2 million jobs and they HAVE to raise the debt ceiling all of which they have said they wont do. So Cantor wee wees out with Kyle...Bones steps in makes a deal with Obama and falls on his sword. Bones is subjected to a caucus vote in the house and Cantor is elected speaker.Bones goes to playing golf full time.

VP Biden just kicked the can down the road. This isn't a Cantor/Kyle problem. All the Democrats want to do is raise taxes and spend more money. Spend, spend, spend! The US is spending itself into bankruptcy. It's a spending problem, not a taxing problem.

Where is the Democratic budget in the senate? Where are their plans to save Medicare and Social Security from bankruptcy? What would Democrats cut? Where is the president's plan? What did Biden propose? Where is the Obama administration? Who is our national "leader?" Why do Democrats let half of Americans pay no income taxes? Why aren't responsible journalists asking these questions?

Democrats have no plans, no proposal except to keep spending into bankruptcy...then to riot in the streets, like the Greeks.

How much do you get paid being a GOP blogger? Per lie? Word? Sentence? No sane human will screw seniors or Americans to protect the rich, oil companies and corporations. Only the GOP would. The trickle down economy pushed since Reagan to give tax breaks to the rich to boost the economy and create jobs has been trickle down crap to seniors and Americans. It made them richer while the GOP wants to end Medicare to seniors to continue to give more to the rich. Revenue needs to be generated to pay off our debt by closing some tax loopholes and ending the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%.To say we are spending too much for taking care of our seniors is wrong. Why won't the GOP cut medicare providers waste? They won't do that but, have no issues to cut benefits from seniors? Americans need to vote out the GOP.

We know the GOP has become a joke, but it is teapartiers like Cantor and Kyl that wish to destroy this nation.

There is only one reason Cantor (and Kyl) left the talks: pure political game. Especially after Cantor rightfully gave VP Biden full credit for positive, fair and diplomatic budget negotiations...Biden is the best there is.

Cantor left because he and every single Republican in Washington knows that there will be revenue increases. No way in all that is magical that taxes will not be increased. Wish all you want then came back to earth. Ask Reagan and Bush I.

Cantor bolted like the little chickenchit he is and dumped all participation when it came to tax increase. He and Kyl took their balls and went home. He has always known tax has to happen, he doesn't want his name involved and make the teaparty mad. He just threw Boehner under the bus.

Little child Cantor.

If Joe Biden would have went along with the Republicans, everything would be peaches and cream. Cantor passed the buck to Boehner. If Obama sticks to his guns, the outcome will still be the same.

Cutting programs for the middle class only can do so much. We have to raise tax along with cuts. The republicans think the american voters are dumb. Nov 2012 Republican will be surprise for going against the working people

Obama to the whoever crap Republican candidate in a debate 2012:

"You have control of the Congress for a year and a half and you have not passed a single legislation that create a single job for this country. All you have done have been against the middle class and holding them hostage. How are Americans trust your party if you control the WH?"

How in God's green earth can any middle classer support what the republicans want to do. They want us to work till were 70 instead of getting to retire at 65, so that we can pay for the oil companies to get get subsidized. They want to cut cut cut but not support it by raising revenue on those who are making a killing while our wages and standard of living has stayed the same for the last 30 years. This is insane and unfair, are middle classers that stuipid? Hey can we lose our Medicare so that corporate loopholes can stay in the tax code. How stuipid are you people? I'm convinced that they want the economy to stay in the hole so that you morons will blame Obama, I feel sorry for him I don't like everything he does but he's pushing a loaded cart up a big hill and gets no support.

When is the President and the Democrats going to get it. The republicans do not care what happens to this economy. The worse it is the better they feel, it is time to grow some and stand up to this crowd of bullies. It is time to stop negotiating with these clowns and do what is right for this country and our economy. Taxes MUST BE RAISED ON THE KOCH BROTHERS, THE MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES AND CORPORATIONS THAT DO NOT PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Shame on Eric Cantor, for playing political games with our economy and our futures. He is absolutely disgraceful and should be ashamed of himself for his stunt. I don't really care what his reasons are he is thumbing his nose at the middle class and proving that he is not concerned with jobs or fixing what is wrong with this country. He wants the president and the country to fail so him and his cohorts can get their payoffs from the billionaires they represent and keep their jobs. It is time for Mr Cantor and Mr Boehner and the Mr McConnell to leave office and go retire and live their lives in luxury off the backs of the middle class and seniors. Despicable, disgusting and downright sell outs that is what the republican party has become. Shame on you Mr Cantor!

The last time our country was faced with the question, who will blink first, in such a monumental confrontation was during the Cuban Missile Crisis. To tell the truth, I am as frightened now as I was during the Kennedy and Khrushchev stand-off. I don't know how this is going to end. The vast majority of Americans will suffer if the country doesn't raise the debt ceiling and the same Americans will suffer if the country doesn't raise its revenues.

The debt ceiling has nothing to do with increased spending. It only has to do with paying our country's contracted debts. The Republicans are no better than foreign terrorists threatening the majority of average Americans' safety and welfare for the greater prosperity of the wealthiest Americans. May they rot in hell for their collective threat against our national security and personal survival.

Taxes came up and Republicans ran away. When will Obama learn, these guys are not interested in compromise. Show some strength, kick them to the curb. Take your case to the American people. I believe they'll support Obama if he shows some fight.

I agree - Obama needs to just stand up and say no to their cuts and yes to raising the taxes of the rich and corporations who are putting their money in offshore/foreign banks in order to avoid paying taxes.

He also would benefit from forcing the hand of Republicans who have blocked every jobs bill that has been stalled in congress.

The best way to help the economy is to have people spend money and the best/only way to make that possible is to give people jobs.

Not only have the Republicans tried to blame Obama for not producing jobs - they have obstructed the possibility of jobs bills at every turn - they are stalled up in congress BECAUSE OF THE REPUBLICANS in the name of David Vitter who is determined to make Obama take the blame.
