Scientology Enemies List Revealed (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 06/23/11 04:24 PM ET   Updated: 08/23/11 06:12 AM ET

A former high ranking Scientologist, Marty Rathbun, posted what he says is an internal document from The Office of Special Affairs -- the religion's secretive intelligence arm, reports The Village Voice.

While Rathbun left the church in 2004, the document was just posted on his personal blog this month and it's dated 2010. It's a lengthy list of people the church considers "disaffected, enemy connected, psychotic, etc." and are not to be invited to any of the Church's events.

The list is long, but on it are some familiar names who, it's no surprise, are some of Scientology's most vocal critics.

Paul Haggis

In 2009 director Paul Haggis left the church after 35 years as a member, in protest over the organization's support for Proposition 8.

Haggis began to speak out after he left and was a recent subject of a New Yorker profile, in which he said, "I was in a cult for thirty-four years. Everyone else could see it. I don't know why I couldn't."

A cult is a religion that fails to mature into a viable philosophical system.

I beg to differ.

A religion has a deity.

$cientology, at no place in any of their laughably-written, 1950's jargon-laced "testamental" handbooks so much as MENTIONS a deity...or even acknowledges the existence of one.

Go to www.xenu.net for further education on this evil cult of death and lies.

I just want to make sure I have this straight. Apparenly they emailed the list on which they gave specific instructions for no one to use email?

Really, I'm not sure what other mode of communication transfer one could use these days but still, that's pretty funny.

To everyone on the list. Congratulations on getting out.

So, the followers of Nickle and Dimenetics have finally published a list of their enemies...
Pretty dry reading actually.

What I'd like to see is the Church of SubGenius list of enemies.
That AND The First Church of Shatnerology's list of foes!

Sometimes you just have to wake up with a picture of Bob staring over you while the Shatman himself sings "Rocketman" in the background.

Ah, religion... what wondrous things you could do if no one took you seriously.

I was quite interested in hearing the report of Investigative Journalist, Mark Ebner. Sadly, the video did not play. Has is been hacked (which would be in keeping with Scientology's MO) or is this just general incompetence?

While I feel sorry for the weak-minded people who joined the cult, I am far less interested in their comments.

It's interesting the think that the major enemies of Scientology are the very ones who espoused it. It's not a matter of IF but WHEN Scientology will unravel in much the way News of the World did. No matter how hard Scientology tries to control their own, one of them will eventually spill so much beans, they'll be farting all the way to jail.

The Church of Scientology is a very dangerous cult. Mind control, fear and people worship. Not good for any religion. Sounds like James Town doesn't it?

I just find it so hard to accept how much people need to belong, it's crushing.
No matter which group, religious or otherwise that then abuses them and still, they line up.

*sigh*

L. Ron Hubbard was first a science fiction writer who developed if memory serves correct..'the science of dianetics"..and later The Church of Scientology. He was most likely clinically mentally ill, who would rant, frankly often with reason.. psychiatry at the time was horrible, against that profession as a whole and the use of drugs in mental health treatment. Of course, it IS a cult, and like any (and all), hyper reflexive and defensive regarding perceived 'attack'. Too bad.

That's silly. MOST religions are good for the most part. An example, many people do not realize that The Salvation Army is in fact a Christian religion. Over it's lifetime many millions of people have been helped by it.

Bob you are right. Many religious organizations, like the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities (also, if your look at their charities, Hezbolah), are filled with wonderful people who do excellent things. However, that does not properly warn people of the dangers to civil society posed by religious fanaticism, of the sort that Americans find rising all around them.

Good people find much goodness in religion, but is is unwise to overlook the tremendous power for abuse, that is inherent in religion.

Scientology should be kicked out of the US, plain and simple.

Nope. I won't go for that. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are human rights. That gives people the right to make fools of themselves by joining cults, or "religions," which as Frank Zappa explained are merely cults that own lots of real estate.

There is no good way for government to arbitrate belief; that's why good governments stay out of the religion business. Sadly, our government has yet to figure that out. This US government is hip deep in Christianity and sinking quickly.

Scentology is a well documented cult, that brainwashes adherents. This is not about belief, it is about keeping folks from being scammed. I could care less about what their "beliefs" are.

As disgusting as I find Scientology, I would not recommend criminalizing membership in the Scientology Cult. That would be a very slippery slope.

Of course, making Scientology illegal in countries that have "recognized" (acceptable) religions is legal. But those countries are not the USA.
