Bachmann Takes Swipe At Romney On Abortion

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said Friday that the 2012 elections was not the time for Republicans to nominate someone with a wavering record on abortion, alluding to one of her competitors in the race.

Speaking via Skype to the National Right to Life’s Convention in Jacksonville, Fla., the Minnesota Republican did not mention former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by name. But the target of her dig was clear.

The 2012 race, she said, was "not the time for Republicans to put up a candidate who is weak on this issue and has a history of flip-flopping on this issue.”

Romney has a mixed history with abortion rights. Formerly a pro-choice advocate, he claims to have converted his position in 2004. The health care law he signed in Massachusetts, which covers abortion procedures, has been a source of contention with social conservatives, as has his refusal, so far, to sign the "Susan B. Anthony Anti-Abortion Pledge," which marks candidates' promises to advance anti-abortion legislation and appoint like-minded judges. Romney has cited concerns over the broad language of the pledge.

Bachmann's Friday statement provides an preview of the type of attacks likely to come as the primary heats up. But the congresswoman wasn't solely interested in chastising Romney. Her harsher comments were reserved for President Obama, whom she called "the most pro-abortion president in our country's history."

Over the course of the conference, Bachmann, along with four other 2012 Republican candidates -- Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty -- touted their anti-abortion credentials and discussed how they would alter abortion policy should they be elected president.

Bachmann offered the most fiery rhetoric of the group, criticizing Obama for his 2009 reinstatement of the so called "Mexico city gag rule," which provides U.S. funding for international health groups that perform abortions, promote legalizing the procedure or provide counseling about terminating pregnancies. She also criticized the president’s health care law for providing taxpayer funding abortion. In fact, the law, as written, keeps longstanding policy restricting federal funds from going to abortion procedures.

Bachmann also stated she planned to officially announce her run for the Presidency this coming Monday in Iowa and then declared her intent to repeal "Obamacare." She also applauded the fact that at least six Planned Parenthood clinics in her home state of Minnesota were closing as a result of cuts made to the federal budget, calling the closures "a start."

As to the issue of her 23 foster children, I read somewhere where Michele stated that they took in alot teenagers and saw to it they finished school. But I also read where her husband runs a Christian counseling group and there was a question as to whether his group advocated they could cure being gay through using the Bible. But as to the reason why they took 23 foster kids and for how long, etc. ...one  Read More...

"I'm confused as to who is for or against abortion in this article?" Will the real capitalist please stand up!

“Every species of animals naturally multiplies in proportion to the means of their subsistence, and no species can ever multiply beyond it. But in civilized society it is only among the inferior ranks of people that the scantiness of subsistence can set limits to the further multiplication of the human species; and it can do so in no other way than by destroying a great part of the children which their fruitful marriages produce.” Adam Smith Wealth of Nations

I wonder how far she's going to go. Just months ago I was ready to write her off as a ditsy distraction. Look at Sarah Palin, another ditsy distraction, who nearly became vice president. They're all the rage these days. I think she could go far which is fine with me. She'd lose against Mickey Mouse in a president election. I'm really curious at this point, I guess time will tell, but she certainly tells her base what they like to hear.

Why must they keep bringing up this abortion nonsense every single election??? They never do anything about it , except lately by attacking Planned Parenthood so that now low income women will have no where to go to get assistance with their pregnancy and testing for cancers. Stop with the social issues every single election. Maybe she should have gone to a non sectarian school instead of Oral Roberts University and she would have learned something besides being a Pentacostal fanatic. Oh, I forgot Oral Roberts brought someone back from the dead, so said his son. And he used her tuition to build a Grand Mansion and office for himself.

She "applauded" the fact that six Planned Parenthoods were closing in her state? Is she pleased that now countless low income women will no longer have access to affordable birth control or that they will now skip routine Pap tests?

Or prenatal care, breast exams, pediatric care. Yes, dear Republicans, let's make life even more miserable for low income women than you already do. Let's create even more social strife that you can then campaign against. A wonderful system you've got going there.

The topic of ablution can be very personal and torches people in different ways. Our Church has been firmly against ablution and we have even picnicked ablution clinics. A recent indecent changed all this when our spiteural leader the Pastor accidentally got his teen-age daughter pregnant. It was a very derisive issue and created a Great Shizzle among the conflagration; some wanting to deflock the Minstrel, and others wanting forgiveness to rain. This incitement caused many to rethink there views. Some thought that ablution was the solution.
I only add this anklenote because I support the grizzled mamas, but some things should be left to personal derisions.

Wow... what?

The pastor got his teen-age "daughter" pregnant? I'm not even going to touch what was implied by the word "accidentally". How is it that what was being discussed was defrocking the pastor not reporting the whole thing to the police?

Maybe a positive for Michele. Having concerns about children, send them to Michele and her soft husband. He will pray the gay out of them. She has 20+ foster children. Must be a great tax break.

Correction, she HAD 23. The last one left their home in 1998. She ran them through like cattle through a shoot. She ran the foster home from 1992 to 2000. Most only stayed a couple of months, some stay up to a year. $$$$ for each one.

Tax Break my eye.... She runs a shelter for runaway girls and gets $18,000 a month from the state. She also owns a farm that collects a 6 figure check not to farm. When you get down to it she is just another sow rooting at the public trough all the while ranting and raving about people on welfare.

Great post David. That six figure you mentioned is actually over $250,000. Oh and most of the foster kids were in and out types. She probably doesn't even remember their names.
