Michelle Obama Reveals The Dating Advice She Gives To First Daughters

The Huffington Post

Michelle Obama sat down with ABC News' David Muir amid her South Africa trip to talk about meeting Nelson Mandela, the possibility of four more years in the White House and watching her daughters become women.

She said, "I look at them in the same way and think, wow, you guys have grown up, and you're so poised, and you're so sweet. So there's that motherly side of me. But it's still always a balance between protecting them, but giving them experiences to travel." And when shown a clip of her youngest reading The Cat in the Hat on Wednesday, she remarked, "Yeah, Sasha's got a little flavor."

And then, there's this...

Muir: What advice will you give to your girls when they fall in love?

Michelle: Choose people who will lift you up. Find people who will make you better.

Muir: You said the president has made you better.

Michelle: Yes. I haven't told him that so now it's on the record, so he's going to bring that up whenever I'm mad at him.

WATCH a clip below. For the full video, head over to ABCNews.com.

Everyone is just focused on first lady raising their daughters, WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SEEING FOR THE THREE YEARS IS PARTNERSHIP IN RAISING THEY DAUGHTERS. For this AFRICA Trip it was AWESOME, we admire the values they're instilling in their Daughters.

We're going to REPEAT our thanks to and give THUMBS UP! To HUFFING POST, AP, AND ABC, FOR THE PICTURES AND COVERING THE FIRST FAMILY ON THEY GOOD WILL TRIP IN AFRICA. CNN AND MSNBC DIDN'T BOTHER TO COVER, what ANGER US THIS MORNING, WE WAS LOOKING AT CHRIS JANSING ON MSNBC., WHAT STRUCK US THIS MORNING IS THAT CHRIS JANSING THOUGH FOUCSING ON UK, KATE AND PRINCE WILLIAMS AT A WIMBLEDON GAME THEN OUR FIRST FAMILY IN AFRICA ON A GOOD WILL TRIP, IT JUST GOES TO SAY WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT OUR AMERICA VALUES AND RESPECT FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS FAMILY, WE CALL IT ANTI-AMERICA, WE REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MSNBC LATELY, WE HEARD ON THE RADIO THAT MSNBC AND CNN WASN'T GOING TO COVER ANTHING ABOUT THE OBAMA'S WE KNOW FOX DON'T, HAVE THESE ST

The President always give his wife a lot of credit for they daughters normal young life, and he have admitted and apologize for not being home for them, because of his work in Washington as a Senator, we now what these Senators go through they don't get to go home every day like a person who have a 9 to 5 job, But the First Lady have also said he's a good father and Husband, We read a BOOK called the PROMISE That was written last year by JONATHAN ALTER, said FIRST LADY MICHELL fight for her HUSBAND like a TIGER, you can tell he'll do the same thing, he talk about his wife a lot, sure in every healthy Marrage you will get mad if you don't, something is wrong, you don't always agree with everything each other do. Michelle did say the President is a Good Man and that a GOOD MAN, NEED A STRONG WOMAN, she is not saying he's perfect nor is she, what is being said we all have flaws.

You know the president and Michelle seems to me to be truly in love and respect each other. How they act with each other in public can not be pretend all the time, so I really believe they still have that MARRIAGE MAGIC going. Refreshing to have two people being married this long to still be genuinely in love.

This is the time an article on the First Lady should not be in the Style Section. Indeed, there are several better options. If a Style Section piece is mandatory, they could have said something about the designer of those print blouses she has been featuring during the trip, as they were quite nice. That black leather looking jacket she wore over the green one - who and what was that.

Sarah Palin's child has a fit and inappropriate conduct with journalists and that is put on the politics section and the main page. The First Lady and her exceptional children read to the economically challenged of another land, and there is a pic teasing you to the Style Section.

There could have been an article in the Education Section. There could have been articles in the Impact Section.

Here is a permission slip for the HP. You are hereby given permission to feature articles on any and all the Obamas, and write significant articles about the Obamas, that are positive, uplifting, and include relevant facts and details. I do not think the HP will go under should they print the positive about our First Family.

Now that the entire world is aware there are black people in the whitest house in America, all other news about them cannot possibly compare.

I don't think color should be any problem. I did not vote for Obama at first I was a Hillary girl. But when he won the race to be the candidate I voted for him. I will continue to vote for him. Regardless of the color of his skin he is the President of this country and there are a lot of people out there who slur and mock him. It shows they are the type of people WE should not respect.

I agree, Stephen. HP should use the Impact section for these stories. I've been enjoying your posts. Keep up the good work! F & F.

I agree! I think you should always choose someone who brings out the best in you and vice versa. It should always be understood there are going to be bad days along with the good days so there must be trust, respect, compassion, understanding and communication. Love is what all of those things bring together. It's not just magic.

I think if those two girls can find someone that will give them that and they can share that with someone else, they will be alright.

One of the things I like about our President and First Lady is they really seem to not only have their minds intact but also they seem to have a great respect for each other and love for each other which is important seeing they have a great deal of responsibility on their hands as well as quite a few people looking up to them.

I think marriage should be with someone who makes you feel better about yourself but also you should do the same for them. It is mostly about respect and communication and loving the person you are also friends with every day. There are many tests along the way. Ultimately, you should bring out the best in each other.

As for the dating years when bringing up girls.... I don't think it is something a person can plan on. It is more something to prepare for. Everyone is different and every situation is different as it comes up. I would think especially for the First Family. Although they can send those Secret Service guys along...

And, be prepared for lots of talks and listening.

Part of why I love Michelle is she reminds me of my own mom and my own family. Great woman, great mother and glad to have her representing me around the world.

Agreed. Seems so obvious but somehow it isn't. This should be one's criteria for friends not just mates.
