Any dog owner is well acquainted with the comfort that our canine friends provide on a daily basis. Different organizations have realized the healing power that man's best friends can have, and have begun using dogs for emotional aid for senior citizens, hospital patrons, and even stressed-out students. Now, Dog Bless You, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit, is working to give therapy dogs to military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The charity is having an online promotion until July 4. Simply like their Facebook page--for every 5,000 likes, a veteran with PTSD receives a therapy dog. Watch Lu Parker's report on this surprisingly simple remedy for the stresses of war, and learn more about service dogs for disabled persons here.

There is a local organization near us helping to train service dogs for veterans too called Medical Service Dogs (medicalservicedogs.com). They are working with the local VA, but there are many people who don’t qualify for the program and are in desperate need for a service dog to help them cope. It is unfortunate there isn’t more funding available for organizations like this one as they really do a great deal of good for the community and our vets and the training is very time consuming and expensive.

Please, please, please tell me they are rescued dogs. That would be so sweet that each helped to save each other.

Besides behind the scene AKC supports puppy-mills so it would be nice not to give them money for registering the pedigreed dogs.
