Harvard Business School's New Class Will Have Highest-Ever Percentage Of Women

Harvard Women

(AP) CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Early statistics are showing that this year's incoming MBA class at the Harvard Business School will have its greater percentage of women.

The school said this week that of the 918 students in the MBA class of 2013, 39 percent will be female. Women comprised 36 percent of the enrolled MBA students in the two previous classes.

School spokesman Brian Kenny said the school's admissions strategy has evolved over the last several years on trying to find ways to increase diversity

He said Harvard Business School has no fixed targets when it comes to industry, geographical, or gender representation.

In addition, the class of 2013 will see greater representation from students with backgrounds in science, engineering, and manufacturing, leading to fewer students hailing from consulting and finance.

Great! Female lemmings who learn that growth is achieved by bending down to cut yourself off at the knee. Treat business like Bushes.

Unfortunately, if that woman is over the age of 35 she will never pay off her student loan for that MBA before she hits 60.

hey, give the distaff side their due. They can't possibly do worse than the 'masters of the universe' who almost took down this country in 2008.

No matter how many business degrees women get, the FACT IS women are NOT INNOVATORS or VISIONARIES! They will never be a driving force in business because of this. They don't start or create businesses. They have no business visions or plans for the future. They just look to join an existing business or industry, make good money and have tome power and prestige. They more or less assume the roles of caretakers or nannies to the areas they are assigned. It's like it's always been. They let the men do all the heavy lifting, and when things start looking good, then jump aboard for a free ride, and then claim equal credit for the success.

I do not care how many degrees they have even from the top schools.
Some of them are incompetent at best and criminals at worst.

There are such things as common sense and basic skills.
And human decency....don't forget that.

We need people who understand some sacrifice, patience, and even patriotism.
People who won't tank the country's economy for personal greed and selfishness.

I am NOT holding my breath waiting.

That's great! In effect, more women acting like men. Maybe they should open a separate business school for women---to teach a different business ethic: one that doesn't destroy the world economy for the sake of faking their bank numbers to look bigger than they are to compensate for you-know-what.

You know as sexist as your comment sounds it might have merit. Women have traditionally and stereo typically had to live within their means and in some classes are used to budgeting-micro economics. Then again, Harvard is probably taking wealthier women, Approximately 32% of women leaders in government are from single sex schools and young girls when attending single sex prep schools tend to speak up more in class than when in coed classes.

Eventually we will have to work together but separate training could bring stronger voices and more equal partnerships to the table.

The worst place to learn about business is Harvard or any other higher education institution. The best place is beside your plutocratic father or mother as they use short cut decision making for big short term profits and long term damage to the corporation and use insider information that strengthens plutocracy. If that position is impossible the next best thing is to start your own business using eclectic information from a variety of sources. Another alternative is to go from job to job and learn at every turn. If I were young, I would go into politics and educate the people who would support me and make possible the creation and growthof new businesses as monopolies were outlawed and trading mercantelism was stopped. At the present time the only successful businesses are government sponsored and favored.

Great. Now we can have 'a woman's touch' when it comes to messing up the economy. Based on the performance of the govt and other entities in recent years when it comes to economic matters, one can safely conclude that a Harvard education is quite over rated. Paying for a name brand, that's all it is..

Although some of my favorite people are men (husband, sons, brothers, father, friends) I can't help but think this is a good trend. The woman in the picture looks stressed. Is she thinking that things need to change, and fast....? Can I get a job with Elizabeth Warren?

Although Harvard Business School is prestigious, it is also high priced and way overrated. That ought be the very first thing any student, man or woman, should be learning in economics 101. What is meant by over-rated. Well, HBS has turned out people like George Bush the mother of all bomb-out presidents, Rajat Gupta who was charged with insider trading, Henry Paulson of TARP fame, Jeffrey Skilling of ENRON fame, Mitt Romney an uninspiring wanna-be president, John Paulson of Hedge funds, Jamie Dimon of corrupt JP Morgan Chase bank, David Viniar of corrupt Goldman Sachs, and many others who work for Goldman Sachs, (Goldman Sachs makes that a desired prequisite for everyone's resume, if they want to be hired by Goldman Sachs). Will women going to this school do any better than the men that this school has turned out? Very unlikely!

Thank you for the list. You know, I could have made up the same list out of whole cloth and total ignorance and gotten at least 9 out of 10 right. What does that tell you?

The degree is a key- what you do with it is up to you. The value of the reputation deserved in your eyes or not will open doors.

While its a great thing for women to pursue advanced degrees Harvard BS has a dubious reputation of creating some of the absolute worst crooks of Wallstreet. A job on Wallstreet is really a career as a glorified clerk and sadly some of our best minds are wasted on financial con games when they could be really valuable to America as an engineer or doctor.

Of course, maybe more women on Wallstreet could dilute the ocean of misused testosterone and bring a little sanity to the party.

Failing Upward, Version 3,452,227 (aka the Wages of Nearly Bringing Down the Global Economy)

Corporate American, and apparently important agencies, much prefer to hire people who’ve had Big Jobs -- no matter how poorly they’ve performed in them,

You cannot make this up.

From the Banking Times -- “Ex-Lehman chief risk officer appointed World Bank treasurer,”

The World Bank has appointed Madelyn Antoncic as its new vice president and treasurer.

Ms Antoncic served as Lehman Brothers’ chief risk officer from 2002 to 2007 and following the collapse of the bank, stayed on for a year as managing director and senior advisor at the

Lehman Estate, helping to maximise value for creditors…

In her new role, Ms Antoncic will be responsible for maintaining the World Bank’s standing in financial markets and for managing an extensive client advisory, transaction, and asset management business.

She will also lead seven Treasury business lines as follows: the Capital Markets Department; Investment Management Department; Pension & Endowments; Quantitative Risk Analytics; Treasury Operations Department; Banking & Debt Management, and Sovereign Investment Partnerships.

Commenting on the appointment, World Bank Group president Robert B Zoellick, says: “Known for her forthrightness, I am delighted Madelyn is taking up this important role.”

More women that ever have been heading to all post-graduate trainings in all parts of the world.
America is only now catching up.

Women are dedicated, hard-working; with less hubris than men.
Men thought women were good in tupperware;
but were caught off-guard when they were even better (than men) in hardware and software.:=))

Thank you for demonstarting why "more women!" fluff stories like this mean absolutely nothing. "Women are dedicated, hard-working; with less hubris than men?" Here's wishing you more substantial experience with such matters in the fututre.
