Maggie Daley, Former Chicago First Lady, Spends Week In Hospital, Says Doctor

06/27/11 02:28 PM ET   AP

CHICAGO — Maggie Daley's doctor says the former Chicago first lady has spent the past week in the hospital and has been released.

Dr. Steven Rosen says Daley left Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Sunday.

Rosen declined to say why the 67-year-old Daley was in the hospital, citing privacy. The former first lady has battled metastatic breast cancer since 2002.

The wife of former Mayor Richard Daley was admitted to the hospital multiple times this spring. Once she was experiencing flu-like symptoms, including nausea and dehydration. She also had surgery to replace a metal rod in her right leg, which was weakened by cancer treatment.

Rahm Emanuel was sworn-in last month to replace Richard Daley as mayor.

How do political insiders operate? Why the set up a non-profit charity business, and they pay themselves handsomely from contributions provided by politicians at our expense. Such is the actions of Maggie Daley. She got a $6.5 million "grant" from the city run by her husband.

I hope that Maggie and her husband have good days together. He made the right choice by retiring to give her his full attention.

I always figured the reason Daley didn't run again this year was because of bad medical news for Maggie. She's already outlived the norm for her kind of cancer -- and she seems to have had a number of issues in the past year or more (and many more in the past 6 months).

Hope the situation is improved, whatever the situation may be.

You are right, and I think he was pretty upfront about that.

As someone living with cancer, my thoughts are with Mrs. Daley and her family. Such marvelous things are being done today with breast cancer, lymphoma (my type) and so many other cancers that I will just hope that her hospitalization will have a happy ending for her and her family.

Thank you. I am doing fine. In fact, I just came from the doctor this morning, and the news continues to be good. Thanks.

Gosh, Maggie, my heart is with you. A fellow breast cancer sufferer, you are strong, and an inspiration.
