Rod Blagojevich Guilty: Twitter Reacts (TWEETS)

Rod Blagojevich Guilty

First Posted: 06/27/11 06:55 PM ET Updated: 08/27/11 06:12 AM ET

Rod Blagojevich, the embattled former Democratic governor of Illinois, was found guilty on Monday of 17 charges, among them trying to sell President Obama's former Senate seat.

From The Associated Press:

The verdict was a bitter defeat for Blagojevich, who had spent 2 1/2 years professing his innocence on reality TV shows and later on the witness stand. His defense team had insisted that hours of FBI wiretap recordings were just the ramblings of a politician who liked to think out loud.

Blagojevich, 54, now faces up to 300 years in prison, although he'll most likely serve only a fraction of that time. Richard Kling, a professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, told CNN that he would probably spend between six and 11 years in jail.

Twitter users around the world took to the social media site to share their thoughts on the former governor's convictions, which ranged from sadness for his family to "about time." And yes, there was a lot of commentary about Blagojevich's hair.

If a prosecutor was assigned and tapped the conversations of each of us and followed up with a Jury Trial, more then 50% of us would go to Jail. Just something to think about. I only wish that each of the people on the Jury, the Prosecutors, and the Judge could be tapped and prosecuted.

Wow he should have had Jose from Florida represent him with a 12 man jury..HUH Just think had the guy just had a serious charge of like murder or something and his car trunk stunk like hell and his accomplise knew where every body part was burried in separate locations he probably would have got off. If he was just a perfect saint liberal...

the jury was tainted, the State convicted him before the trial. he didnt sell the seat. no actual crime was committed. should he go to jail because Mell and Madigan didnt like him?
It is shoddy prosecution legally.

Im a lawyer, and it really isn't clear to me what "crime" he has committed. Did he steal money? There is some allegation of lying to investigators i believe? I heard the audio, pretty vague to claim its an attempt to illicit a bribe. Geithner stole trillions and no one is putting him on trial.

Why does it seem that todays polititians are such mutants of normalcy and character. They all seem to come from such low moral standards and virtue.

WHAT..... 300 years???
Not enough.

I just don't believe you published that. Something is wrong with your way of thinking. Do you honestly believe that this man should serve the rest of his life in Jail? If you do, you you do not have very much common sense.

Please this have been the way the politician talk all the time. What did he do? Did he steal the money he just talked about it where is freedom of speech someone explain. Thats what he should have said in court the invasion of freedom of speech.

You need to learn how to speak and write. You must be a democrat. Go back to school, if you can learn.

"Blagojevich, 54, now faces up to 300 years in prison, although he'll most likely serve only a fraction of that time."
Really? I thought he would serve out the whole 300.

He should get 500 years. And yes I would keep him in jail for the full 500 years if I were the Judge. I would cut no slack.

You don't need to worry about creepy "big Rod Blago". When he gets out of prison he has a job with The Hair Club for Men for those "after" commercials.

That's funny. I thought he'd serve at least half of the 300 years. I guess the professor knows more than me. Maybe I should ask Mary Ann or the Skipper.

I was going to write how happy I am justice has been served then I remembered my sins. Now I just say, God's will be done.

Yes, when I'm about to condemn others, I remember how much mercy I have received from God. Then I thank God.

I think this is very sad!
So he talked about stuff---so what?
Its a crime to jabber now?
At the end of the day--what did he do? Nothing!!
01:10 AM on 06/30/2011
It all depends on exactly what one is "jabbering" about. Joking about weapons through airport security is a crime, for example. Jabbering about insider information concerning stocks, even if the recipient doesn't follow up on it, is a crime.
