The New York Times:

For someone who had once joined an insurgent group, and whose family was tied to a top Taliban commander, Akmal had a strikingly easy path into the Afghan National Army.

Here is an argument that both sides should have: Get out!, Let the Taliban establish better targets.

The new OsamaBinLanden of Yemen -- American al-Awlaki, a known associate of 9 1 1 hijackers -- infiltrated the Pentagon and dined with the Secretary of the Army for casting off for Yemen.

The Bush-appointed Secretary of the Army, Thomas E. White, became Secretary after being Vice-Chairman of Enron and heading the division that ripped-off California and falsifying revenues/profits.

A real stand-up kinda guy.

The taliban was there before the US got involved, they will be there after the US leaves.
This cannot be just another excuse to KEEP troops there.

How do we get ourselves into these bloody messes? Surely, doing nothing in the war category after 9/11 would have led to major net gains for all concerned. Oh, I know, it's about promoting the military-industrial complex. How silly of me to forget.

Someone please explain how a country so remote-devoid of the sophistication of developed countries, poses a real tangible threat except for bankrupting countries and flooding the market with drugs? Or does this merely represent a watch point from which to watch Iran? Its largely miles and miles of nothing but miles.

They will figure this out. Afghanistan is one of the most remote to the US countries on this planet. After a decade of an outrageous drain of the US public money ( eg, the US taxpayer pays the war profiteers $400 for a gallon of gas, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/16/us-pays-400-per-gallon-fo_n_324294.html ) it is time to stop all funding of this war and all other wars.
