for my daughter, libraries are essential. you can't do everything on a computer, period. I agree with an earlier poster-libraries are essential for many groups of people. can't imagine life without them and I don't want a life without them.

People may think libraries aren't relevant because you have a computer at home. There are still a lot of people out there who cannot afford a computer or internet access. They cannot afford to spend their income on books. Many disadvantaged people have found jobs on computers in the library, learned English from books in the library, learned about a skill that interested them that they could translate into a job opportunity in the library. The elderly use the library a lot too, especially ones without families. Children need libraries too, for things like storytime, and for their parents to give them opportunities to read without spending their entire paycheck on books. Lastly, any society that does not have access to FREE information is not a free society.
