Chew on this: the secret to everlasting beauty comes not in a cream or under a scalpel, but in a stick of gum.
Relaxnews reports that Sweden's Vigo Gum "contains Vitamins A, B1, B6, B12, C, beta carotene and selenium and claims to be good for stronger hair, nails and healthy, elastic skin," and you can chomp on up to four pieces per day for at least ten minutes at a time. The nutritional information has been reviewed by the European Food Safety Authority; however, a spokeswoman explained to UPI, "We are not saying that you will look better but that you will maintain a healthy complexion."
Of course, there's a slew of critics who aren't biting.
Toxicologist Ulla Beckman Sundh of the country's National Food Administration told ConfectioneryNews.com, "I can't see how the ingredients would be able to provide any of the effects they claim. Those substances can't influence looks or focus in any particular way."
Louise Ungerth, head of the local Stockholm consumer association, wrote on her blog: "It is the most stupid product that has ever hit the shelves."
Vigo will be sold at pharmacies and grocery stores across Sweden. No word yet on the price, which would make or break our purchase.
