BMW Drifting Car Stunt Atop US Bank Tower In LA

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 06/29/11 03:51 PM ET Updated: 08/29/11 06:12 AM ET

BMW has just released this comically dramatic clip of one of their vehicles atop Los Angeles' US Bank building. The car is "drifting" on the structure's helipad, which is the highest in the world. Drifting is now considered a sport -- the goal is to turn the car so as to lose traction while continuing to drive at a high speed. While BMW's promotional stunt will seem pointless to some, the video is impressive, and our city does look rather majestic.

For once the usual subtitle "Closed course, professional driver. Do not attempt" is completely unnecessary.

I wonder what kind of disclaimers they had to sign and how big of an insurance bond they had to post for that?

It wouldn't have been so "comically dramatic" if the driver blew a tire and the car fell to the street killing people. I think it's plain nuts to have even allowed it.

It sucks that the tower doesn't have an observation deck.
