Chicago's Best French Fries (PHOTOS)

Chicagoans are always arguing over food -- deep dish or thin crust, steamed dogs or grilled -- but one thing that you'll never find locals debating is the best way to treat a potato; the answer will always be to fry it. We scoured the city for the best fries and narrowed it down to ten of our favorites. From haute truffle fries to simple crinkle-cut spuds, we’ll uncover why these make for more than just excellent food porn.

Best Naked Fries

Hackney's on Harms famous Hackneyburger and the more famous Inside/Out Hackneyburger both have made their way onto Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives," but the sizzling plate of French fries that complements them are by no means the underdog. These golden fries have the perfect amount of crunch and are served so hot that you'll have to use a napkin to load them on to your plate. Cooked in canola oil (c'mon, tell yourself they're healthier), these fries are truly addicting. Bonus: If you're sharing a plate and you run out, your server will bring you another round on the house.

gene and judes,,,,,,,,,,,really? i love a good hot dog, and a buddy and i treaked out there one sunday early afternoon. YUK, the dogs were like eating a rubberband, and about the size of a pencil. mustard, onions, relish, how original. very cheap food, at very cheap prices. way over hyped.

Oh yes! Gene and Jude's!!! Comfort food for anyone who grew up in River Grove or Franklin Park area in the 50's or 60's! Before we cared about eating healthy! Still good when visiting back in the neighborhood! As for the ketchup? Who needs it?

I agree with the Paradise Pup win, but the julienne and naked fries categories are off. Best shoestring/juliennes are at Miramar in Highwood, and the absolute best naked fries are at Fratellos in Volo (with Eros in Arlington Heights coming in a close second).

Brown Paper Bag Fries: Red Hot Ranch on Western & DIckens. Roma's Italian Beef pretty damn good, too. Superdawg for crinkle cut.

I've never had a crisp Superdawg fry. Are they supposed to be limp and greasy?

Sometimes they're a little more well done than at other times. That's the way it rolls with crinkle cuts.

Never Ever do the Editors of Huffington Post Chicago list or even seem like they know that the South Side of Chicago exists!

Yes and it has many hidden culinary gems. Get out of your comfort zone, do some exploring and be a real Chicagoan for once.
