Voters Are Unhappy With GOP Field, Obama's Handling Of The Economy, Everything Else, Polls Show

Gop Field

First Posted: 06/29/11 07:46 PM ET Updated: 08/29/11 06:12 AM ET

The more things change, the more they stay the same. While it seems to me that the GOP field contains just about every variety of Republican candidate you could possibly want, Republican voters remain unsatisfied with who they have to choose from, at least according to the most recent New York Times/CBS News poll:

Republican voters are not satisfied with the candidates running for the Republican nomination and wish they had more choices, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll. None of the candidates currently hoping to challenge President Obama in 2012 has earned enthusiastic support from more than 7 percent of Republican voters.

Along those same lines, Americans remain "closely divided over Mr. Obama’s handling of his job as president: 47 percent approve and 44 percent disapprove," and "are especially critical of the way Mr. Obama has handled the economy."

Sounds like a job for Rick Perry/Jeb Bush/Chris Christie/Rudy Giuliani/Thad McCotter/Sarah Palin/George Pataki! (Pick one.)

Michele Bachmann may not succeed in running away with Tea Party support if Rick Perry jumps into the race: "The Texas conservative, who's weighing a late entry into the field of GOP candidates, beats other candidates among members of the Tea Party, the conservative grassroots wing of the Republican Party that's battling to shape the race for the nomination." [The Hill]

Obama fans are angry at Rachel Maddow for that time she accurately reported that Barack Obama does not formally support marriage equality. [War Room @ Salon]

Newt Gingrich says he is "recovering" from the mass exodus of his entire campaign team, presumably not as well or as quickly as his entire campaign team is from being a part of Gingrich's campaign. [The Hill]

If Herman Cain's latest web video is any indication, Glenn Beck must have made a big impression on the pizza magnate:

After two years of doom and gloom, stalling and filibustering from the Republicans, the American public is in a foul mood, when you go through great lengths of wanting the President to fail from day one, preventing working together and partisan bickering it is no wonder Washington is broken. People are out of work and neither political party will take the time to solve the problems because neither party is  Read More...

I have been reading all the comments . I see why we have the problems we have. No one can get past their party lines. We need to quit living in the past and plan for the future and really look at what would be best for all americans. I'm not a fan of the Tea Party but they do have some good suggestions to make me think. I'm not lead by hate or a superior attitude that I have all the answers like most of you. President is a big responsibility and hard to make us all happy.

The GOP must cut the Tea Party caused cancer form it's ranks in order to stand a chance in 2012. Thier only chance is to strongly back a fiscally conservative, social moderate as a canadate. And let the far out there Tea Party do it's own thing.

people are unhappy with the republican field because well..they are republicans. and do not represent true conservatism, which would not make an issue of obamas birthplace, color, religion, would not make an issue of muslims building a place of worship anywhere, would not balk at helping their fellow man in need, etc etc.

people are unhappy with obama because hes a democrat, and does not represent progressives, who would help people without enriching corporations first, which all of obamas policies do. well wall street and the MIC.  a real democrat could not support libya anymore than they supported iraq, given the fact that gadaffy had not used womds on neighbors, his own people, shot at our planes, hired terrorists to attack our interests abroad, tried to kill a president, etc etc etc, where saddam had. gadaffy was given NO chance at diplomacy for his "threats", whereas saddam had 10 years of continuous problems while we tried diplomacy.

the fact is republicans do not represent conservatives, nor democrats progressives, and to be honest, the 2 ideological opponents have much more in common with each other than democrats and republicans do.

They keep ignoring the only anti-war candidate. Ron Paul. He would end the wars today and close down most of the 1,000+ unnecessary military bases we have around the world - to fund SS, Medicare and Medicaid. He's not afraid of banksters like everyone else is and will audit and the Federal Reserve (the source of all our problems) and break up Too Big To Fail. He's not bought and remains true to his ideals. He has voted against his own pay raises ever since he was in government. A more honest politician you will not find. He will also end the failed war on drugs that predominately and wrongly imprisons people of color. While not perfect - he will do the job we need done. He's the only FDR of our time. I'm hoping he'd pick Sanders or Kucinich as his VP. Come on folks, "we the people" need to win this one.

What I don't understand is, why aren't people clamoring for an anti-war candidate??!! Are we that detached from the American ideals and ourselves? If that's the case, we've lost before we've begun.

As a black american I become etremely confused each time I listen to Herman Cain. The founding documents that he contantly refer to were not written for him or people like him, What the heck is talking about, he suffers from chronic house ni**geritis. Those documents address him and people like him as either 3/5 men or property of slave owners. Has Herman Cain checked his geneology to see if Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and others might have been his family's slave masters as all founding fathers owned slaves during the writing of the founding documents.

I'd be unhappy too if that bunch of misfits is all I had to chose from. Not one viable, legitimate contender in the bunch.

I don't remember this many people being polled during the 8 destructive years of GWB but everyday AOLHP (that's whose running this show so i've reversed the order) has some poll to highlight against President Obama. Since you've already polled him with SPalin who hasn't declared her candidacy who's next..Brisol?

questions questions questions.....

here are some questions that could clear up
some of the electorates tepidations about the GOP

which party is fighting Wall St reform
the cause of our recent economic woes?

which party wants to further deregulate laws to
protect the public from corporations starting
with eliminating the EPA?

which party wants to continue those silly Bush
tax cuts for the wealthy when a majority of the americans
public favor increases to the wealthy???

which party is playing games with raising the debt ceiling
which will have a desvastating effect on the worlds economy???

which party apologised to BP for fouling the gulf of Mexico?

We know the answer to these questions and it is reflected
in the discontent with the GOP field of challengers! None of
which has a moderate approach to solving the countries
problems...

The country is tired of these extremist.....

GOP move to center or further marginalize your party
the public is tired of the obstruction and hate..........

Obama may have not been asaggressively progressive as I would have liked, but given the hate and obstruction created by the Do-nothings GOP, he has stopped the Bush Depression ..... And the thought of ANY return to GOP rule lossens my wallet and motivates me to work to make SURE evey Bagger/Republican office holder is unemployed after the next election ..... I have a future and children that I want to leave better than what the GOP left me......
